AMC DH9 Ninak
« on: December 08, 2021, 11:48:04 AM »
Just finished my WnWNinak Model. I cut away both sides of the fuselage around the engine in front of the firewall and aft of the fuel tanks. I scratch built the starboard upper wing and port lower aileron. I used the engine from my last build of a post war Ninak to put on a stand next to the model in this vignette. The post war model had the engine covers completely on so the engine was not visible. I just needed a bit of blanking and mounts for the prop and exhausts. The spokes for the wheels are from Pheon Decals and went together beautifully. I had to scour the internet for images of the wing internals and the engine to cockpit wiring and piping with not a huge amount of success. Hope you like the images.

Wow!
We get lots of good models posted on this site but only a few have that wow factor that knocks you back in your seat. This is one of the best.
Congratulations LT, a beauty.
I'm studying it on my tablet, but I need to get to my PC and get these pictures up on the big monitor to savour in full.
Hats off, sir.
Sandy

Great work, you built from scratch most of the plane and the result is fantastic. As said above, one of the best seen all around.

My jaw dropped, then my hand went to my mouth - I'm truly stunned! This is such a beautiful build, the details look faultless and are aspirational, the posing is inspired, my word....WOW!!!

When I saw Sandy's reply I just had to repost it because it sums up my feelings so well:

First class in every way. A real attention grabber with lots of super detail well exposed so that we can all see it. I especially like the spare engine at the side.

What did you use to make the spars and ribs on the upper wing?

Stephen.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I made the spars and ribs from evergreen styrene. When I made a Bristol Fighter a while ago, I got hold of a book called Wings and Rigging which detailed how to make the wings for that aircraft from styrene. Its then easy enough to modify once you know the internals for the DH9. The hard part is finding the images and images that agree. There are different diagrams out there.
