Halberstadt D.II - 1/72nd scale Merlin kit
« on: December 04, 2021, 09:49:07 PM »
I built this initially many many years ago.  With little reference, no internet, and a complete lack of skill, I painted it bright green and purple.  I used straight out of the package evergreen strips for struts.  I made all control surfaces pose-able.  The rudder and elevator turned out okay but I butchered the ailerons.  It was a mess.  At some point over the last 30 years, I couldn't live with it in that state anymore so I took it apart and stripped the paint and placed it on the shelf of doom.  With references, knowledge, and just a bit more skill, it is looking much better now.  I hadn't yet painted the tires in these photos.  Not my best effort, but it's off the shelf.  My apologies for the lack of depth of field on these photos.  My usually trusty old Nikon D50 was giving me fits, so I took these with my iPhone.

Thank you for posting. I have a few Pegasus kits these in my stash.  The Roden Albatros D.III has extra interplane struts that I may use for the Halberstadt if I ever get around to building it. A great effort to revive an older build!

Back in the Late 80s'/ early 90s' I had most of the Merlin kits in My stash. I was too intimidated to try and hack an actual aircraft out of the poorly molded plastic! You have done an amazing job on this one Stuart!  Excellent Modeling skills were certainly required to get this result.

An excellent model from a rather poor kit. I have only built one Pegasus kit and it was crude to write the least. However they did provide some interesting subjects - and yours id first class.

Lovely work Stuart, with all the talk of people wanting to see new-tool Halberstadt D.IIs in all three major scales it's great to see yours restored to such a great standard. Top job!

Nicely done in this little scale!
I need to add this type to my collection (from a Blue Max 1/48 kit).

Cheers,
Frank
