Special Hobby does not currently have any new WW1 aircraft kits in development, but our Forum promotion currently underway is being followed by them and has shown them modellers like Special Hobby WW1 kits.

Forum members now have an opportunity to take it further with a members' poll to find the most wanted new WW1 kits you would like Special Hobby to produce, and would buy. The aim is to show Special Hobby the commercial potential for re-starting its WW1 line.

So while Special Hobby does not currently have any new WW1 aircraft kits in development, if they did re-start their WW1 line, what kit would you most want to buy, and in what scale? Your answers will be collated and sent to Special Hobby to encourage a resumption of their WW1 models.

Please indicate the aircraft and scale of your preferred choices.

And please keep the selections realistic- we're talking aircraft kits with commercial sales appeal not weird esoteric designs.

We ran a poll like this previously for Roden and it was very helpful so this time we are helping Special Hobby.

So what new WW1 kits would you like Special Hobby to produce and in what scale? This is a great opportunity for Forum members to be influential with kit manufacturers.

Please respond in this thread and we will pass the results to our friends at Special Hobby.

Great development.

It'd have to be something reasonably mainstream with good marketing appeal so, lots of colourful marking schemes available.

In 1/32 we've got a Pfalz DVIII coming from Aviattic but that will be very expensive and only a limited run resin, but maybe not a good idea to split the market.

No, in 1/32, the answer is obvious surely - a Hanriot HD-1 Scout, with options for the floatplane too - Belgian, Italian, French, US and Swiss markings.
I'd buy a few.
Sandy

(PS While we're at it, perhaps we could ask Roden for an Oeffag option for their lovely 1/32 Albatros D.III kit!)

Hello, Dave -

I second the idea of 32nd scale Hanriot HD1 - an airraft not that well covered (certainly not in this scale) but a reasonably well known machine that hopefully would equate to it being a commercially viable model.

Regards

Dave

Great initiative, Dave!

My votes would go for 1/32 kits:
Albatros D.III (Oef)
Breguet XIV
Oeffag C.II
Hanriot HD.1
Morane L

There are actually many more subjects which I would love to see kitted but seeing at least Alb-Oef would be a fulfillment of dreams!

I have to agree the Hanriot would be an obvious choice. I’ve got nothing against 1/48 but because I’m building in 1/32, and can’t commit to another scale at this stage and it’s not a huge plane 1/32 for this one for me.

Guess excluding all the kits coming from CSM, Aviattic, Roden and Lukhgraph etc then what’s left?

Possibly an updated SPAD VII and Albatros III ( Austrian make) would be commercially viable? Less well known? No one is doing a Sopwith Comic. Pfalz Dr1

There are Austrian fighters such as Pheonix that may sell.

I’ll put in a plug for flying boats such as Italian Macchi M5 and Hansa - Brandenburg and other Austrian types - Interesting looking
birds

For 2 seaters the German AEG CIV haven’t been done by anyone in 1/32. They saw service in the Middle East and Polish in 1919 as well as the Western Front. But with 40cm plus wingspan these are a bigger proposal

At the present time, I would like to see a Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter or a Breguet XIV, in 1/32 scale , of course.

Pretty much any Short Bros aircraft. Donnet Denhaut  DD.8, any Austro Hungarian flying boat and any of the Voisins in 1/48 would be spiffing.

Dave, Thanks for giving us another opportunity to voice our "Wants" fo another Manufacturer! As a Retiree I have found that although Many Resin kits interest Me I just can't justify the cost. That being said it would be great to see Special Hobby get back in the WW1 market!!

My choices would include the following in 1/32nd scale:

Single Seaters:
1. Halberstadt DII
2. FE8
3. Hanroit HD1
4. Albatros DII ( Also OEF version)
5. Roland DII
6. Morane AI
Most of these saw significant service so not too obscure  8)

Two Seaters:

1. BE12/ BE2c
2. Bregeut  XIV
3. Vickers FB5 Gunbus
4. SPAD XI/XVI
5. Morane P

Again thanks and I do Hope Special Hobby takes a a serious Look at the Poll!!
RAGIII

PS: I have left out the Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter, Avro 504, and Bristol Scout as hopefully these are in the design process by Roden and CSM. If this doesn't prove to be true the Strutter would be MY #1 two seater  ;D

Dave,
For me, the Hanroit HD1 in 1/32nd scale would top my list.
In 1/48th scale, the Sopwith Pup and Junkers J.1 are my recommendations.

For me it would be all 1/48 scale, and to be honest I do not really care what it would be, any new release and attention would be welcome.

But if I had to make a choice, Hanriot would great as would be a all new tool Pfalz D.III, beautifull lines and many color choices

Everybody's building large-scale kits, so those of us in the proper scale (1/72) don't stand a chance. Ah well.  ;D 8)

Speaking of 1/32nd scale, I strongly agree with Hanriot HD1, or an Aviatik Berg D.I or, looking larger a RAF Be.2c
In 1/48 there were many kits now oop that could be welcome again on the market: H.B W29, Sopwith Pup and Triplane, Avro 504K.
Ciao

P.S. on the hesoteric side, why not a Zeppelin airship nacelle?  :)

I'll buy anything they produce!!! Having said that, I do think a Hanriot in 1/32 would be a great idea. Any Austro-Hungarian aircraft would be my next choice(Lohner flying boat!). The Breguet 14 is also appealing.

A 1/32 Bristol Scout

When I am not entirely wrong, CSM have one in the pipeline!

I would be a happy man with a 1:32 scale Halberstadt D. fighter and/or a Morane BB or P.
