Roden SPAD XIII "Speculative" 19 Squadron
« on: November 14, 2021, 08:34:19 AM »
So I figured Kens build will not go off the completed section for a while therefore waiting to post Mine was pointless.   ;D Built "Mostly" OOB except for the Instrument Dials, Machine guns, Corrected landing gear spreader bar and strut position, and scratch-built seatbelts.   Kit decals for the roundels, Pheon for the 19 squadron dumb bells. and serial painted Thanks von Buckles. B 3479 was the first SPAD XIII delivered to the RFC. It was delivered to depot and tested then went to 19 squadron for a couple of Months. At some point it received a coat of PC 10...No one really seems to know when. It was photographed while serving in 23 squadron in PC 10.

Nice one, Rick. It's funny how some planes don't look right in the "wrong" colours, but this one looks very right - in the wrong colours, if you know what I mean!
Excellent model,
Sandy

Excellent, Rick!  I really think there is something cool about a SPAD in RFC colors.  Not sure why!

Neat job on that one,
Dan

Great SPAD, Rick! Elegant and speedy from all sides. And PC10 suits her well.

Very nice one. Great to see these new Roden kits being actually built. I wish I had a parallel life to accomodate the bench time to mine.

Nice that you finished this SPAD!
The SPAD of Ken may have more details, but your has PC10 👍 So no model is pointless!

Good luck with the next projects!

Cheers,
Frank

Spectacular result, Amigo!  Something about the SPAD's rigging intimidates me, but seeing this, well...I'm just gonna have to get over it.
Cheers,
Bud

Very unusual look for a SPAD, but a unique livery gives extra value to an already excellent model. Well done.

As others have commented, it is really different seeing a SPAD in PC10, but I think that it looks very good indeed. Super build log as always, followed by another of your super models.

Thanks for all of the comments Guys! The PC 10 does give the SPAD a different look  ;D Again this airframe was indeed doped in PC 10 it is the 19 squadron markings that make it "Speculative" No one knows when it received the PC 10 so I chose to assume it was done while with 19 squadron. If one were to put a triangle and white N on the fuselage it would be quite authentic for 23 squadron  ::)

Thanks Ernie! The rigging is challenging for sure. Ken has shown us that it is "Possible" to drill holes through the H struts so on MY next one I will try My usual Fishing line method vs Stretched Sprue  8)
