Adjudant Jacques Roques' SPAD XIII 1/32 Roden
« on: October 24, 2021, 11:34:58 PM »
Jacques Roques was a Swiss citizen who fought with the French Aeronautique Militaire in the Spa 48 and was credited with 5 victories.

I think the SPAD is probably the most complicated single seat fighter of WW1 and this build was quite a challenge from that perspective.
Here, I have used the Roden SPAD XIII as the base kit to which I have added PE details from PART from Poland and scratchbuilt a number of details as well.  Decals are from FFSMC of France.  A typical Roden kit, it is a good base to add detail to create a very nice model.
The build log is here  https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=12387.0

So, I think this kit can be built into a very nice model.  It will take some time and care on the part of the builder, but the results will speak for itself.

Thanks for looking and feel free to leave comments and criticisms.

Gorgeous SPAD Ken! Your attention to added details, precise painting, and fantastic rigging are Most Impressive.  Beautifully Done in all aspects!  I think I will wait a bit before I post any photos of My Completed SPAD  ;D

That is may be the most beautiful SPAD I have seen, wonderful!
Great pictures too, but one should browse through your build log for all the added details.
Thank you very much for showing this beauty.

I think the SPAD is probably the most complicated single seat fighter of WW1
I think that is the reason why all of my SPAD kits are still sitting in the stash ::)

Cheers,
Frank

That is an outstanding and inspiring model: the build log is in the same league. The original may well have been complex - your model ceetainly replicates all of the complexity in very fine detail.

Stephen.

Thank you everyone for your kind and gracious comments.  I have added a few more pictures in the 'specific build links' sub forum.

Now that's a stunning SPAD XIII.
I assume it's Roden latest release of the SPAD.
I know the pain of the rigging on this aircraft as I built the old 'Hobby Craft' model.
Yes, the struts in-scale are very thin and fragile, which is why I replaced mine with Brass struts.
At least you limited the pain by not fitting an exposed engine, as I did  :o
Congratulations again on a great model,

Mike

Gorgeous!

The color variations are fantastic.  I have always found full CDL schemes a bit on the boring side.  But yours brings it to life.  Thank you for sharing it with us.
