That's the easy bit.
Now comes the hard part!

Plan is to try white water colour pencil or paint for the outlines against the red stripe. I can wash off if it's a mess. If my hand really is not steady enough I may have to settle for this mind you! If I can get the outer outline I can apply a second numeric decal over first to get sharp inner edges. At least that is the theory.

The rudder is looking great. Best of luck on the outlines! What colors did you use for the red and blue?

Whether I look at the painting, the rigging or anything else, it looks real great. 👍

Thanks compadres, any encouragement is greatly appreciated. The rudder stripes are Humbrol enamels which I don't use very often but I've got a drawerful from way back and the standard red (19) and blue (25) colours gave a great match to the decal colours.
(And in the background you can see Humbrol Middle Blue (89), which I like for the Nieuport interior blue framework.)
Cheers

OK so trying to create the white outline on serials by hand didn't work out too well.
First attempt with a Mitsubishi pigmented ink white pen resulted in a wavery mess which just showed how age is taking it's toll! I'm sure a few decades ago I'd have free handed such details with ease. Not any more! A good irrigation with water and everything back to stage one.
Next attempt with water colour paint and a very fine brush was better but ultimately not a result I could live with, so, more water to clean everything off again.

Third try: I applied duplicates of the necessary four numbers from the Xtracolor decal sheet to some spare white decal (from a 1/32 Revell Red Arrows Hawk as it happens!) being very careful not to allow any water on the white decal - hence squiggledy angles.
Then very carefully with a very sharp scalpel I cut out the inner, then outer excess to leave a reasonable representation of what I was after.

Apply to rudder - et voila - I'm delighted with the result and after it's all sealed in with varnish I'll fix fin to fuselage and complete the tail rigigng.

That's a relief, to complete a stage I was dreading. Must see what it looks like in situ.

Even just temporarily perched on the Nie's tail, the rudder really sets off the colour scheme (I think, anyway).
Now there's a tail wind and the end is in sight!

Now that is something I have Never Tried! Applying a decal to a decal and trimming was a Brilliant idea and the results speak for themselves! Your Nieuport looks incredible and I look forward to the completion of this Beauty!!
