Hi Rich,
This is a nice aircraft and I think the only one in this scale.
If it's of any use you could refer to my build log, which although a conversion of to the earlier version D.III, does have a lot of reference data,

First thanks to all for the Encouragement ! Thanks Mike, I have your build and several others bookmarked for reference! Very helpful for figuring out certain details.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with this! Personally love the Roden SSWDIII and it remains one of my favorite (and rare!) completed kits in my collection.

I finally have a "Little" progress to show I stripped the paint from the interior of the fuselage and put down a base for using oils to re paint. A question here. What is the consensus on the tones. 1. Dark stain? 2. Normal wood tones? 3. Reddish Stain? All opinions and or expert advice is welcome! I also started cleaning up and folding some of the kit and PE parts.

Oh yes! The carnage begins!

As far as I know there are no survivers. The real one in Berlin is a replica. So I think you can do the wood as you like 8)

Have fun,

Yep unfortunately it is a tough call on the wood color. Obviously it is typically depicted with very dark stained wood but I also have seen the theory that it could have been a very yellow/orange stain that made it appear dark due to the film used at the time period.

For my build I went with a middle ground leaning to orange, not too dark on the interior bits just thinking it would look better than a very dark brown color in there....

Hi Rick ,

As for the interior wood tones no one really knows , but I don't think the interior was slacked like the outside of the fuselage . So you can go light or dark or something in between . I did the same as Patrick did staying in the middle range leaning to orange with yellow undertones .

Thanks to all for the suggestions on the wood! Patrick and Alexis, I have your builds bookmarked and have referred to both several times already, along with the builds of Mike and Lance  8)

So I went with a mid tone wood grain with a Tamiya clear orange overspray.

Wood tones on the interior look good, Rick.

When I built this one some years ago I went with dark wood tone, but I think now I should have gone with a lighter shade like this.

Thanks Dave. Like was said earlier who knows what "Shade/Tone" is correct. For all we know it could have been painted in "red primer"  :o I am ready to start actual construction now.

I did a small amount of work on the interior yesterday. Next up is touch up on the frames/stick, and adding instrument dials/wiring etc.
