Eduard 1/48 Morane Saulnier N *Insignia
« on: March 14, 2021, 12:07:11 AM »
Hello all  :)

After my latest build hit the rocks (a slightly worrying trend developing  ??? ), I put it back in its box for another day (maybe), I wanted to get something I could finish!

I was looking at an easy Tamiya build, but bought this on impulse. Excellent value for an Eduard Profipack - £14, and of course, you get PE & masks. Most importantly, it’s only got one wing! And as my Achille’s heel seems to be adding top wings, what could possibly go wrong?!

So here’s what you get in the box:

A nice PE fret:

Think I’m going for this one:

Nice picture of an RFC Morane:

Which gives me a couple of questions:

The propeller looks very dark & solid in colour?

What colour would have been the MS manufacturers plate?

Thanks,

Guy

Guy,
Good luck with this build. I always enjoy seeing this aircraft being done and the
great opportunities for weathering.

Guy,
French props were generally stained a very dark brown as Alexis states, usually the laminated effect didn't show through the stain. I know the MS logo was brass symbols and I believe the base or background was black enamel. (Logo details according to a telephone chat with  Des years ago ........)
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks!

That’s useful re the prop - and saves me masking!

Black background and brass lettering sounds logical. Although the photo makes it look like it should be a lighter colour, but I guess that might be the photography effects of the old film?

Done a bit on the cockpit, it’s a sweet little kit with decent enough detail in this scale - the PE fret really helps here.

Nice job so far.
I recently picked this kit up as well.  It’s a very pretty little machine.  Looking forward to seeing how you tackle all the clear doped linen.

Cheers,

Hugh

Nice project Guy, I will follow!
It is a nice little kit, which was only available 2004 as Profipack and normal kit. There was no re-edition until this year! So it was very hard to find it for me, at first I found the normal, later the Profipack. I have build both and converted one to type I on skies.

It is a nice kit, I had only trouble with the inner V on the undercarriage. I replaced the inner struts and the "3 pipes" axles with real pipes.
And I find the tailplane mounting with the thin plastic axle not robust enough for transportation, so I replaced it with metal. See my build reports for details.

Have fun,
Frank

Thanks Hugh, Rick and Frank  :)

Frank, I did think you must have built this so looked for your build but couldn’t find it initially, but I have now. A goldmine, albeit a bit beyond my skill set  :o

It does seem very fragile in places. So I probably will have to beef up certain areas. I’d really like to build the whole thing then paint - but think this will be too fiddly, although I might, at least, fix the undercarriage before painting. Just less messy but with the very real danger of it breaking off in my club fists at a later date...

I’ve completed the engine with no extra detail added. It’s largely hidden behind the ‘casserole’ spinner. That’s my excuse anyway  :P

Thanks Alexis & Rick,

Although I gave some thought to adding the undercarriage pre painting - I came to my senses and just constructed the frame work without gluing to the fuselage, so hopefully will be a drop fit once painted...

I did think about adding brass tubing like Frank, but the kit parts were ok - good enough for me at least!

Looks good so far! And again a impressive speed :o

If I remember right, the legs are sitting too wide according to the drawing, so I moved them together. May be that was the reason, that the middle V is then to short.

Cheers,
Frank

They just about touch Frank, but there is a PE piece to add which should make it about right I think.

I too, like you broke the ‘V’ but managed to repair it  ::)
