Eduard ProfiPACK Nieuport 21
« on: January 03, 2021, 10:20:47 AM »
Hello everyone.
The new year is here and my 1/28th scale Revell Fokker D.VIIF is just about finished. I decided to blow off some dust and conduct
an excavation in the lower levels of my stash to find my next build. I'll be taking some inspiration from Alexis's recent Nieuport Triplane
build.
So here's what I've unearthed.

Time to get started.  Happy New Year and Happy Modeling,

                                                                                   Kevin

So Alexis, my one question is, how did you know of my interest in archaeology? ESP, no doubt.

Well Kevin ,

In some of your replies you make a ref's too Archaeology indicating an interest in the field , I have an interest in Psychology , do fair amount of reading on different fields . Right now I'm reading a few articles on how humans communicate in our speech and writing patterns .

No ESP or witchcraft  ;)

Oh Kevin, these are realms I know my way around! Can I nevertheless watch? :D

I have exactly that kit in stash and find A with the skis interesting.
Do you plan to use the full accessories program like Small Stuff rotary, Gaspatch weapon, ... ?
Have fun with this kit!

Cheers,
Frank

Alexis and Frank, I'm glad you're interested in this build. I dug a exploratory trench in another area of my stash and uncovered
a Vector 1/48 scale Le Rhone 9C to use in this build. I'll be dedicating more time to this one now that my big Fokker is about finished.

Hello Everyone,
I've got started on this build. The first thing I'm working on is the Le Rhone 9C. The Vector kit is nice.

The "Horse Shoe" cowl may need to be thinned down a little. I'll see how it goes.

                                                                 Until next time, Happy Modeling!

Well Kevin , I hope that you are able to fit the engine ,  But Woman's intuition tells me , and yes it was a good conversation  ;) Engine will not fit even with the cowl thinned down , a fair bit of the cylinders will acquire removal .  ;)

Implying that the Kit supplied engine is under scale?

I guess in this case .." size does matter " ! :)

Yes the kit supply engine is under scale , better suited for 1/43 - 1/45 scale aircraft . Only the out side dim of the model are to 48 scale , engines and cockpits aren't do to plastic thickness . More so on older kits , new kits are better now with the latest mold tech .

The Vector engine is true 48 scale so once the engine is assembled the outer dim will be the same with the outer dim of the fuselage ...cowl will not fit even with thinning , lower part of each cylinder will need to be removed 2.5 mm - 3 mm depending on how much the cowl was thinned .

The kit engine is small. Also, with this kit, the instructions would have you use a photo-etch piece to represent the intake manifolds and attach them on the back side
of the cylinders. This would be correct for a Le Rhone 9J, but not the 9C, as installed on the Nieuport 21.

I'm optimistic that you will manage the combination engine/cowling, Kevin!
I don't know the size of the Vector rotary, but I was able to get a 9C from Small Stuff freely rotatable under a Eduard Nieuport 11 cowling, which seems  to be very comparable:
