Albatros D.V (1/32, Wingnut Wings)
« on: December 03, 2012, 08:39:03 AM »
A couple of days ago I started my fourth WNW kit. This time I plan to build Albatros D.V flown by Hans Auer. I am going to use Pheon Decals set for the personal markings.
For the beginning I have been busy with the cockpit. What you see below is a compromise between my will to copy as much as possible from the amazing build by Bertl in GWITA forum and my limitations.
For the moment the fuselage halves are ready to be glued together, after that I will just add one rod running to the engine from the lever on the left side of the cockpit.

Outstanding work on the cockpit, Prez!  Truly excellent.  She'll be a stunner, for sure.
Cheers,
Bud

Beautiful interior work Prez. Very "clean" for the degree of detail, I think Bertl is going to be getting a great "run for his money" with the quality of your Build!
Cheers,
Lance

Many thanks, everybody.

In the recent days I was busy with the fuselage. First of all I had to fill and sand the entire joint between its halves. My kit copy had an annoying deficiency - the mating surfaces to be glued were not flat but had recesses at the spots where the pushers were applied to push the kit elements from the moulds. As a result at every centimeter there was a slot in the joint. Needless to say, one cycle of filling and sanding did not suffice...
Then I decided to make an imitation of nails which are so much evident in many photos of Albatroses. They are nicely rendered in Roland kit, pity that Albatros is lacking it. I do not possess any tool for riveting. So I traced every nail line and marked 10 spots per each 7 mm - this came out from a simple count of nail heads along some clearly seen lines - the new WD with photos of the TVAL replica was very useful here. Then using a 0.25mm drill bit I drilled shallow holes which will later be filled with wash. This took a couple of busy evenings but this job is finished now. The fuselage is now degreased with soap and warm water and prepared for painting wood pattern.

You did a brilliant job on the nail heads, Prez.  What a tedious task that must have been.  I definately don't have your level of patience, my friend.
Cheers,
Bud

Prez,
You are taking detail to new heights; I will be trying the nail head technique on my next attempt at this Kit. ( I have 2 DVa's in the stash) This is a very exciting Build to watch, your work is incredibly good!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks, everybody.

Bob, how could I have missed the screws... Now it is too late  ;D

Some colours are on. And the fuselage is ready for Rowan's decals.
