I'm glad I've read these last couple of posts, because I'm also in the UK and am still awaiting my WNW order (Fokker DVII and SE5a) which I ordered about three weeks ago.

My last WNW order (back in March) arrived within 10 days delivered by UPS with no additional charges to pay.  I'm therefore finding this order a bit frustrating!  Obviously seems there must be form of backlog with Parcelforce on this occasion with all the other Christmas delivery rush.

Regards

Dave
As we say in fencing, what's the point?

Santa, was very good to me this year and very largely due to the efforts of Dave of WNW. The DH-2 and the Fok. EIII are awaiting attention and I am now the proud owner of the DVII range and a Tripe, which were delivered today in good time.  Just goes to show what Parcel Force can do when they pay attention.

The future is golden for WW1 aviation enthusiasts..thanks to WNW.

It came out earlier this year Steve. I picked my copy up online from The Book Depository.

http://www.bookdepository.com/Fokker-DVII-Tomasz-Kowalski/9788362878338

No shipping fees or taxes to pay, so it cost me only $22.36 to the door.

Cheers,

Chris
Thanks Chris!  I ordered one when I saw your post and received it the day before Christmas.  I must say it is very nice with a lot of detailed computer generated 3D images! :)

Got my Fokker built DVII yesterday and for the first time had to pay duty. $5 for the honour of allowing them to stop the parcel and look at it and another further $13 and change in tax. All well at least its here...except my lovely lady friend has hidden it til Christmas - without even a look!!

Steve

Just a quick update on the state of Customs Charges applied to WNW Orders by Canadian Border Services for my fellow Canadian Members:

Up until Oct 2012 - approx. one half dozen orders, no charges;
Oct 2012 - charged over $30 on an F2b Kit worth $79 US:
Nov 2012 - Sopwith Tripe arrives...no charges; and
late Dec. 4 Kits and one Sheet of WNW Decals totalling well over $300 value arrive; SWMBO is charged $21 Customs Fee. Good thing they didn't apply the F2b "formula"!
No rhyme nor reason to all of this; given the pattern above my next order should be Duty Free, .................or not?!?
Cheers,
Lance >:(

It sounds like you guys in Canada are heading the same way as the guys in the UK with their crazy parcelfarce, damn ridiculous having to pay tax on items which are market as a gift. There has been talk recently of our government (Australia) thinking about charging GST (Goods and Services Tax) on all imported items, at the moment any imports valued under $1000 come in tax free. The GST is rated at 10% so that won't be too bad, but the government number crunchers say it would cost more to implement the charges then what they would make out of it, and it will take another year for them to do a full study to see if it is worthwhile, so we have a bit of breathing space before there will be any changes, if any.

The Governments of all our countries seem to think that they can tax their way out of the recession But to meddle with things like taxing Kits is just plain crazy, any way I thought that they didn't know the difference between kits and toys, and most of the people who run our government departments should be learning joined-up writing at their local jobcentre

I have no problem paying the tax if its due, I'm not Amazon or Vodafone. I have to pay the tax and duty indirectly if I buy anything from Hannants so why shouldn't I in this case, and although they are marked as gifts they're not because I've paid for them.

I do believe the threshold is set too low and £100 would be a more reasonable limit. The Parcelforce charge is an annoying addition to the cost but I can understand why they apply it as they've paid the import costs on my behalf.

For a UK purchase I'd factor in a 4 week wait especially at this time of the year.

As I understand it Des this will be the third or fourth study/investigation/inquiry about the $1000 exemption.... Don't see it changing anytime soon unless Gerry Harvey and his mates really grab the Pollies attention....

Andrew

P.S. back on topic - I want a Fokker!! As a matter of interest, my Uncle worked on the F27 project as a draughtsman - not WW1 I know :)

My SWMBO asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I answered truthfully: a DVII; I added one to the list along with a decal sheet. I got a bit of model fund as a present, and using Daves formula bought anouther 2 DVII, a DH9a, and another tripe, all for 150.00US.
I think I'll hold off on buying anymore for a bit.....

Dave's formula sounds like something I too would like to know about.........4 WNW Kits for $150 US is a real coup.
Out with it!

I seem to recall that Dave's formula was a bit of a ruse to throw SWMBO off the trail regarding the actual cost of our hobby. ;D  Naturally, many of our wives are under the impression that WNW kits cost about $30-$40 each, with FREE shipping all the way from NZ! ;) ::)  That is what they cost, isn't it? ;)

If I am mistaken, and there is actually a source at $35 each, by all means please enlighten us. ;D

Bob

Dave's formula depends entirely for its successful operation for a complete separation between invoices and SWMBO's.
