« on: February 23, 2020, 12:55:47 PM »
Just finished these two.  The newer Revell and an older Eduard kit.

First the Revell kit.  This is either 193/17 or 197/17 depending on your resource. There is a lot of controversy about the color scheme and markings on this aircraft.

Colors used were Vallejo Model Color Prussian blue for the fuselage, Tamiya X-5 for the green nose,  Streaked camouflage was xtra color X-24 WW1 German topside green on top of Mister Kit GC 10 german clear doped linen.  Underside was Tamiya XF23. Seatbelts from Eduard, White fields painted except fuselage  which was all decal.

The only trouble with this kit was that the machine guns need some adjustment to fit.  Revell did a nice job reinventing this model. I still have some of the old ones. Rigging was with .15mm (.0005 in.) Nitinol black wire.

The second kit was an older Eduard kit I purchased from Ebay.  Model depicts Von Tutschek's Fokker Dr.1.  Same camouflage as the Revell kit.  Had to add some detail to the engine and cockpit. Seatbelts were from Eduard.

Overall I thought the Revell kit was a bit better. I have not built the Eduard dual combo yet so maybe there is a difference.  The streaked camouflage was a little to green for me. Next time I will use the same clear doped linen ( Mister Kit) but may try a enamel clear coat over that before streaking with an acrylic. I  do not have a lot of enamel paints  as they are so messy to use. I had some problem thinning the green paint and so the streaking is not quite what I wanted.  Next is a couple of Roden Pfalz D.III/IIIa. Pray for me!

Hi Rip!
I have same kits to build and your suggestions about building are treaures.
I like your results, the less convincing part is the streaking camo, as you anticipate.
Sincerely, I bought the Aviattic decals set for this, because I'm sure I will be a disaster with brushes!
Many compliments!
Roberto

Thank you for the nice comments. I have the Aviattic Fokker Streaked decal sheet but still want to improve my streaked camouflage method.

A lovely pair of Fokkers indeed. I remember building the Revell kit many years ago (and still have the model), but you have certainly taken an old kit and made it inot a true gem of a model. The Eduard kit I am not familiar with - but again you have turned out a first class model.
