Pfalz D.IIIa Eduard 1/48
« on: February 04, 2020, 10:50:12 PM »
Hi I start this model one year ago. Meanwhile I did another model, so I open this topic for the rework of the Pfalz.
this means I have first to do a resume of the build:

I choose to represent this plane:

the pilot Busso von Abensleben was a young of a Saxon lord family:

He flew in Jasta 21.
In June of 1918, the 14th, he shot down a ballon but was shot down too by a french hunter.
He was prisoner and died the day after.
No brillant ace in this story, but the real face of this: death without glory.

The plastic sprues shows tha wings ribbs are very caricaturals and I decade to redo them:

I use first the second pair odf wings given in the box as a test:

as I was happy with the result I applied this technic on the wings:

for the upper wing I took of the tank because it was under the plywood:

Thanks for the summary of how you got here - very impressive photo documentation! Could you explain a little about how you applied the wing ribs -- looks like you used some sort of transfer tape?

Yes I use a plotter (silhouette prtrait) the mask was drawn according to a drawing with studio silhouette software so i was sure the ribs will be propely parallel

Hey, xan, you are back with an amazing approach to the Pfalz. I really like it, especially the wing tapes and the seat.
A bientôt

Hi Andreas! we are missing you in "la guerre aérienne"!

the wings are mounted

In the Eduard model, the jonction between wings and fuselage is not "soft" enough:

I added a lot of surfacer to correct it:

"Zwei Armeen, die sich bekämpfen, sind eine grosse Armee, die Selbstmord an sich übt."
Barbusse.
"Une montagne en Allemagne ne peut pas offenser une montagne en France. Ou une rivière ou une forêt ou un champ de blé."

Xan, you are doing a nice job on this great kit (I liked it a lot!).
Since Cristmas I own such plotter too and you give here great ideas for additional usages.

Cheers,
Frank
