Great detail work on the interior, Robin.  The woodgrain will turn out nicely.

I think your efforts with the woodgrain are looking really good. One tricky aspect of woodgrain, I think, is that it shouldn't really be visible from a distance, yet not be completely monochrome and at the same time it should still be showing some graining as you look closer. Well done!

Robin,
Thanks for sharing that super little wire holder gadget, I like that a lot and will add it to my bag of tricks! You are using the same technique for your wood grain one panel at a time, I used the same approach on a 1;32 Albatros recently and it worked out well, you just have to go slow .......
Very nicely done, this is looking like a superb model in the making.
Cheers,
Lance

I did two more batches...

I think I can do the remaining panels tomorrow....probably 3 batches :)
When done I'll put it aside for 5 or 6 days before varnish and decals.
I varnished the D.II after two days without problems, but I won't push my luck...so I wait longer now.
This time I'll use to paint the wings an tail, finish painting the prop and make the Spandaus.

Already looking forward to my next build. The Mirage 1/48 Halberstadt CL.IV HFW.

A big thanks for all your kind remarks and...more soon.

Robin :)

Finished the plywood...

Compared with my D.II...

A steep learning curve. :)

Put it aside. Wings now.

Thanks T., thanks guys. :)

Wings and other stuff.

I must slow down now...5 days to go before I can varnish the fuselage. :-\

I can still paint the radiator, do most of the eyelets and finish the spandaus, but that's about it for now.

What a great and carefully made Albatros. It is going to be a beauty!

Wow, what a progress!
The fuselage looks much better than your the previous Albatros.
And you use the drying time very clever for preparation of all that small parts, so I guess we will see a finish soon?
You promised already the next project (I fully understand - with that impressive speed a forecast is necessary), the Mirage Halberstadt is also waiting in my stash so I will watch very carefully.

You have a own, nice, refreshing style of modelling: You do not get frittered away, but concentrate on the important things, paint carefully and produce wonderful models!

Cheers,
Frank

Thanks Andreas and Frank,

I try to learn from what I see and read on this forum and also from my previous builds.
A little bit better each time...I hope...try to.
I think I found some sort of balance. Build nice models and actually finish them!
Too often I got bogged down trying to do things beyond my skill level.
I now try to keep the pace and nice is good enough for me now...at least I get things done that way. :)

Not really an update worth mentioning, but since I'm here, I might as well post a photo...

With the D.II and Roland, I wasn't overly happy with the gloss varnish. Too glossy and a top coat of semi gloss didn't really change that.
I now did semi-gloss, decals and another layer of semi. Still smooth enough for the decals to go on nicely, no silvering problems.
Aileron panel lines with oil. Radiator dull aluminium (Vallejo 77.717) on black. Tamiya black panel liner.

3 days until I can varnish the fuselage, so probably ready in a week.

Robin :)
