Fokker D-II 1/32nd (Marek's Models)
« on: November 01, 2019, 02:59:09 PM »
Nope...I couldn't help it.  I had to start another card model.  Dang it.  This one was about $6 when I downloaded it a couple of years ago and it looks pretty nice.  It's done up in Kissenbarth's markings and should build up well.  I started some interior stuff with the gas tank, floor boards and the compass.  The only change has been to paint some masking tape and wrap it around the tank to give some relief to the straps or welding around the tank. I don't think you'll see much when it's together, but, as they say...I'll know it's there!  I also added some Testors Window Maker to add "glass" to the compass.

More to come!
Dan

Thanks, Rick and Terri!  I've always liked this machine.  I made a flying model of it years ago and while it didn't exactly set any records, it looked cool as it flew overhead rather briefly.

I got some more interior done along with the pilot's seat. Added some rudder cables from EZ-Line and got the interior "tubular" steel attached on the inside fuselage walls. In keeping with the paper model design, I decided not to use pulled sprue etc. which would have been nice and round but...then it wouldn't be a paper model!

I still need to add some wire from the throttle (maybe it's an advance of some kind?) as well as the tank pressurizer. More to come!

Thanks, Everyone!  Even more mayhem tonight.  I started getting the fuselage together.  It's construction is...shall we say...unconventional.  It's kind of odd, but if I can keep it all square, perhaps it will make a nice, strong and straight fuselage.  We'll see.  The pictures tell the story.  I think my sequence is correct in that this is an inner skin and the outer skin with the markings should act as a shell and go over all of this...at least that's my theory!  ;D

Stay tuned...Dan

Thank you, Rick!  Tonight I got most of the basic fuselage structure in place.  It's kind of wavy in places and not perfect, but it does look surprisingly ok.  I think next time I'll make a balsa backing for the outside skin and just make my own formers and put it together like my flying models.  Oh, well...live and learn.

Overall, it's ok.  Now I will make the rear cockpit decking, the cockpit edging and the gun next.  Coming along!

Cheers,
Dan

My God , ...are you drugs ? And if so ...can you share ?

This is turning out to be a rather quick build and like Rick said , love what you do with these paper models . Awesome  8)

I think I needed some drugs tonight.  I spent about 2 hours just getting that darn gun made and installed.  Lots of cutting to the designed line and then lots of modification to make it look passable.  Kind of messy around the edges etc.
At least she's armed!!!

More soon...Dan

Not much tonight...got the rear cockpit decking and coaming attached.  Next will be the tails or maybe the wings...or both!

Cheers,
Dan
