Eric,
That engine is as nice as I've seen here. A pleasure to follow along, really exceptional work!

Outstanding work. The wiring is just geat and the primer cups are superb, too.

Wonderful build so far, very fine additions on the engine that's a masterpiece in itself.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

My "Ninak" is slowly progressing! Masking everything before painting the fuselage will be great fun...not.   :)

Cheers,
Eric

Like Lance said, the engine is as nice as any shown here.  I think that goes for the interior also.

First update of the new year!  Happy 2020 everyone.

Just out of the paint shop, there was some serious masking involved, especially for the fuselage bands.   Some minor touchups remain to be done along with the leather cockpit trim.
In keeping with my usual rule regarding stripes, bands, etc., the rudder was painted rather than use the kit's decals.   :)
Floquil Railroad Colors Old Silver followed by a satin clear coat is being used to replicate the aluminum dope on the tail, wings, and other parts.

Cheers,
Eric

Time for an overdue update.  Decals are pretty much done.  I just sprayed the final clear gloss coat (Alclad Aqua Gloss) over the wing roundels.  I'd heard the roundel decals are brittle and easily cracked so took appropriate precautions.  I suspect it has something to do with the dense inks and almost non-existent carrier film.  There is absolutely no film visible around the edges.  After carefully sliding them into place in a pool of Micro Set, a hair dyer set to medium heat was used to soften them after which Micro Sol was applied.  Repeated applications of heat and Micro Sol resulted in a painted-on look.  Control surfaces are attached with bronze wire pins.  Still need to do some light weathering to subtly highlight the ribs then a matt clear will be sprayed to complete the aluminum doped finish.   Oh, the rudder stripes were masked and painted rather than using decals.

Cheers,
Eric

Very nice work on the paint and decals, Eric.  I see even the blue stripe on the part crossing over the rear storage compartment.

Thank you!  Hehe...I have no idea if the actual aircraft had the exposed storage compartment or not but thought it added interest to the model so chose to include it.

Very nice work, Eric. Good advice on how to handle tricky decals, too.
Cheers,
