Wingnuts Junkers D.1 progress
« on: June 19, 2019, 01:44:05 PM »
If you're looking for a great project while recuperating from hand surgery I highly recommend the Wingnuts Junkers D.1.

It's a very straightforward build with no vices and Ray Rimell's book on making the kit ( reviewed here at: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=9635.0 is a major help in the project.

Here's where I am with the build so far:

And a special shout out to GasPatch for their amazing Spandaus which I used to substitute for the kit guns.

The guns were reviewed on the forum and the link is: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=9803.0

The model is being painted in the distinctive green & mauve scheme, using home-mixed blends of Vallejo, Humbrol and Citadel acrylics all brush painted.

This looks great Dave. It warms me to a a subject that wasn't on my list. And if that is recovery from a dodgy hand?? You are doing very, very well indeed! My hands are fine but I'd struggle with that colour scheme let alone the corrugations.

Cheers

If that is the result of 1 1/2 hands work you are doing very well indeed. It looks as though you are making a good recovery - let's hope that continues apace.

Stephen.

An update on the Wingnuts Junkers D.1 project.... almost finished now.

The aircraft is being modelled as a new construction on the factory floor in 1918. So no weathering this time.

The crew figure is one of the excellent German crew figures produced by Copper State Models which really enhances this model as do the GasPatch machine guns used to replace the kit's guns.

The factory timber floor is a railway scenics mat from a hobby shop.

Well done indeed Dave,I'm also astonished at the results you get with your brushwork. The sculpting of that figure is outstanding isn't it?

Awesome work Dave! You have achieved a beautiful finish on the Model and figure. The Machine guns look great as your painting gives just the right look to them!
