Excellent woodgraining and battle damage, Brad.  I suspect this project will meet all expectations.

Wow Brad, amazing modeling.  Looks larger than 1/48, like Rick said, magical.

Hi all - a minor update. The top wing is now mounted and rigged. I still have to fix the U/C and add some of the remaining details, but getting close now...

Now that the top wing is on, it's apparent that the figure won't sit right - the left arm (which was supposed to rest on the top wing) is in fact hanging out in space and the backside isn't sitting properly on the coaming (it's kind of hanging out in space, which looks odd). I'll need to do some rework; the figure will likely end up facing a different direction, I think...  :(

I've also been experimenting with the resin that i'll use for the water - this is the first time i've tried something like this so it's a bit daunting. I've settled on a slow curing resin - Envirotex Lite, with some muddy acrylic colouring. Here is my test piece (which is about 1/3rd of an inch deep):

The slow cure means that I can adjust the final position of the aircraft after the pour if I need to. The colouring also means that the river will look a little murky but still clear enough to see some of the river bed details. I'll likely add some ripples using gloss mod podge or similar.

I welcome any thoughts / feedback!

Cheers,

BC

Looks absolutely awesome Brad! I think the water will be well represented with what you have done on the test piece. JMHO

Outstanding finishing, I like plywood panels and ripped fabric made this way. Water test looks fine.

I like the river/pond as is.  Looks about perfect to me.

I didn't realize different 'water' materials could be layered on, but if they have different properties and are compatible, it makes sense.
I have never worked with many diorama materials.

How about some mud splashes on those clean white markings.

Thanks all - I might try some more experimentation but I am a little gun-shy the first time around in trying something like this - I might not tempt fate too much....! In any case, the aircraft itself is pretty much done, and the pilot has had his left arm broken, re-positioned, touched up, and some goggles added into his left hand.

Now it's time to bring it all together.....

Cheers,
