yesterday, I've painted the headrest. All done in Vallejo and Lifecolor acrylics.


The picture is not great but it's the best I could do for now...


Now, I'm going to finish the engine. Still need to finish up the plumbing.

Since I want to present the SE5a on a little vignette, I have started work on the figurines as well.
i'll be using one Model Cellar figurine, that I've already painted up for the pup, but will use with the Hisso now.
The other figurine will be a partly scratchbuild. For the heads, I always use Hornet resin heads, as they are the best IMHO.
started by painting the face, because that's always the most difficult part.  face finished, but still some work to do on the hair :-) All painting done with Humbrol enamels.



For my next project (Fokker Eindecker), I intend to scratch build a pilot, sitting in the cockpit.

Beautifully done, Flip!  I think the leather colour is
perfect.  You really have captured so many tones in
the whole model.  You have a great eye for painting.
The idea for the pilot in the Eindecker is great.  That's
not done much and an interesting plan.

Consummate art, Flip!  The worn leather look you have achieved on the headrest looks absolutely like the real thing.

I am interested in your figure painting.  I hope you will share your techniques an process with us.  If the pilot matches the aircraft, he will be stunning!

The finish you have on this SE5a is exactly what I'd like to be able to emulate with my models. Sadly, I'm eons away from replicating what I see here but I'll keep plugging away at it. Your finish is just superb!

I was quite pleased with my WNW SE5a. Then I saw yours, and I'm considering taking a hammer to mine. Truly inspiring, thanks for posting.

I totally agree with rhinocrat. What a peace of art. My SE5a is starting to look like a plane that has been in the war for more than 20 years. Looking for a hammer too!
