Actually, I do have some 0.02mm brass wire that I sourced with that in mind.  I really want to do a Taube

Yes, I'm from Adelaide

But officially I live in Antartica.  I'm still in hiding from the internet stock-broking scammers (and the Australian Taxation Office).

The Taube is a beautiful aircraft, I can show you a photo my buddy in Poland took a few years ago.  It is his model in 1/48 scale.

Macsporran's suggestion of wheels in 1/144 scale, is ambitious.

I'm an Adelaideian too.  Although I have been in exile in that more eastern capital for twenty-odd years now.  I still remember the long plod along Payneham road from the city, back to the student share house after the pubs closed.  Past Otto's timbers and finally home to bed.

I'm still working rough cast wheels.  These ones are 610 x 85's suitable for the Fokker Eindecker.

I'll think there'll be some progress over the weekend.

At this stage I was thinking of adding a railway flat wagon to transport the wheels closer to the front.

Here is a lovely dovely Eindecker in 1/32 scale from Alex the Wolf (old photo but stunning and worth another look)  The wheels are painted black.  Alex made a great model and took this photo.  The Fokker Eindecker is my favourite WW1 aircraft.

I have been thinking about trying to make my own spoked wheels in 1/48... just not sure where to start. Any advice?

My Morane L parasol project stalled some years back due to a lack of suitable wheels; I tried to make some but they really sucked, so that's where it's stayed since about mid 2019:

I didn't realise we had so many members from Adelaide - I am also currently living in Adelaide, up North side (Gawler). Been here for nearly two years after quite a few years away thanks to His Majesty's Royal Australian Flying Corps. Did either of you chaps get to the SA Expo this weekend?

I'm heading out in a few minutes to the SAPMA Exp, Sunday morning.  I haven't seen the modeling folk for a longtime.  I'm not competing this year but it will be great to see what's on the table.

I built a few 1/48 models many years ago and used Toms Model Works PE wheel sets.  I find 1/32 scale pushes the scale limits with wheels, spoke circumference, rims et cetera.  Haven't really attempted to make any in 1/48.  It would be great challenge.

I don't share build logs / tutorials on making wheels anymore because I sold a few wheels sets over the years to buy modelling tools.  The 3D printing guys have some nice images / renders of what's in the pipeline.  Maybe they've got some 1/48 wheels planned.
