I'm really looking forward to  following your build, Danny. The RE 8 is one of my favourite aircraft and , I think, so unfairly maligned .

Best wishes

Thank's guy's,

Like i promised, after a short break, i wanna tackle my second WNW kit. ::)

A few months ago, i had the change to buy a WNW RE.8 "Harry Tate" (one of my favourite aircraft),Thank's to Grant Lovett from Arrow & Wolf.

So after a little doubt, wich kit i wanted to start (Albatross D.Va or the RE.8) my choise feld on the Harry Tate.

Yesterday, these extra goodies where deliverd:

The complete HGW "Harry Tate" PE and decal set, and flat rigging wire.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSC_0204_zps13926191.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSC_0204_zps13926191.jpg.html)

The reference i will use are the photo's from the WNW website.

So, i think everthing is ready to start, here's the complete kit and the extra aftermarket goodie's.

I have just a little question for you guy's

Is there anybody who have good detail photo's of the RAF4a V12 engine??

Stay tuned for upcoming photo's of the build.

 Hi Guy's,

i have a small progress to show you guy's.

I did some work on the RAF 4a engine, still very basic, but that will change, as i want to add some extra detail regarding the ignition cables.

Engine was painted with Alclad and Tamiya paint's.

Ok guy's, i'm back with some more progress regarding the RAF 4a engine.

Previous, i said that i would put some more details regarding the push rods and the ignition cables.

The push rods are in place, and where scratchted with some lead wire and some brass tube.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0898_zps6cef5f6d.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0898_zps6cef5f6d.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0897_zps0e659502.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0897_zps0e659502.jpg.html)

Time to tackle the ignition cables.

I didn't find the part, included in the WNW kit, regarding the ignition cables, not very convincing, so i decided to make my own.....afterwards, that was a very stupid decision, because i had to make five disc's that where about 2 m/m in diameter, and drill 12 holes in those disc's ......to be honest, that didn't work very well.

So i decided to turn a other way. I punched five holes into a plastic piece of evergreen card, and repeated that with a bigger diameter, so i got five ring's.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0902_zps8bb19775.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0902_zps8bb19775.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0903_zps6447622a.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0903_zps6447622a.jpg.html)

That are the holder's for the ignition cables. Not very scale-wise realistic, but not much will be seen afterwards.

After i done this, i glued these onto the engine in theire place.

Et voila, next step is the placement of the ignition cables themselves.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0906_zpsa34c6eb5.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0906_zpsa34c6eb5.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0905_zps70d2d680.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0905_zps70d2d680.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0904_zps3e29f421.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0904_zps3e29f421.jpg.html)

Once the cables are in theire place, everything will looking more realistic.

That's all folk's

Time to show some more progress, first i go further with the engine ignition cables.
The kit provides these cable's, but they are not really convincing or realistic, so i decided to scratch build them.

These are the kit-part's cables.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0899_zps3fcb770c.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0899_zps3fcb770c.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0900_zps1a77f500.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0900_zps1a77f500.jpg.html)

I used 0.2 m/m lead wire to replicate the cables, first cut them to length and pre-painted them. The conectors to connect the cables onto the spark-plugs where made from brass tube.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0907_zps3945e09a.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0907_zps3945e09a.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0909_zps5237db89.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0909_zps5237db89.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0912_zps2b7522e5.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0912_zps2b7522e5.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0913_zps130c7062.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0913_zps130c7062.jpg.html)

Also the two ring's at the front of the engine where scratch build.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0915_zps2dd0e67b.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0915_zps2dd0e67b.jpg.html)

Last thing to do, was to connect the cables to the ignition box.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0917_zps7b092af0.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0917_zps7b092af0.jpg.html)

Finaly, the whole engine received a wash of engine oil and grease.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0919_zpsc2fa319b.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0919_zpsc2fa319b.jpg.html)

The engine can rest for a wile now, let's go to the cockpit.

All part's that i needed for the cockpit where cut from theire sprue's, prior to receive theire primer.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0927_zps566cb5d1.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0927_zps566cb5d1.jpg.html)

WNW give's the modeller the opportunity to put some more realistic appearance to the pilot's seat. On theire website in the hint's and tip's section, you find the needed info regarding this little operation.

http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/hintsandtips

I did the same with this pilot seat.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0925_zpsf40511ea.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0925_zpsf40511ea.jpg.html)

That's all for this year folk's.

Excellent work with the ignition lead modification, it is a far better and more realistic alternative to the kit supplied part. The rectification to the pilots seat is quite an easy fix but gives the seat a much better appearance, well done.

Again, it's bin a while since i posted the last progress......

A few weeks ago i started to prime all the part's regarding the cockpit. After that i used Tamiya XF-59 Desert Yellow for the base color, prior for adding the woodgrain texture.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0937_zpsd7b1ce0b.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0937_zpsd7b1ce0b.jpg.html)

Afterwards, i added to all part's a woodgrain texture with oil paint Raw Umber. I used the same technique as i did for my Roland.

I don't have pic's of all the part's, just some of the side and instrument panel.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0939_zps181cf36e.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0939_zps181cf36e.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0940_zps535e1c6b.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0940_zps535e1c6b.jpg.html)

Today, i did some detail painting and some decal handling regarding the instrumentpanel and engine mount.

Engine mount went smooth on the side frame's of the fuselage.

Also oil tank and machinegun bullets case where glued onto the frame, still they need some wheatering and detail painting.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0958_zpsc78d81f1.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0958_zpsc78d81f1.jpg.html)

The fueltank, painted in XF-82 Ocean Grey.

Hi Guy's,

the first section of the cockpit is almost complete. All parts are glued together.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0961_zps9d45601b.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0961_zps9d45601b.jpg.html)

Wiring, controle cables and wheatering still need to be added.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0964_zps2a594e15.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0964_zps2a594e15.jpg.html)

The front section was afterwards installed into the fuselage frames.

Togetheter with the front section i dry-fitted the engine, just for display purpose.

Time to put some rigging stuff into the cockpit.

For this i use the fantastic rigging wire from Ushi.

First, i added some controle cabels into the cockpit.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0985_zpsybbwgnzu.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0985_zpsybbwgnzu.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0989_zpsvajepblh.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0989_zpsvajepblh.jpg.html)

Also i added the connection between the two throttle levers.
For this i used Albion Alloys 0.4 m/m copper tube.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0995_zpsqjz0kfwb.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0995_zpsqjz0kfwb.jpg.html)

And the cabels between the fuselage frames.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN0994_zpsilhocnxd.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN0994_zpsilhocnxd.jpg.html)

After some thinking i decided to add some cables on the engine frame. But all of this will not be seen once the fuselage is glued together and the engine cowl is closed. But hey, i now it's there, so i can sleep at night

RAGIII, thank's mate for the nice reply. ;)

This weekend i had some time to work on my Harry Tate, so at the moment this is how he look's.

The engine is now completed with adding of the two exhausts.
Maybe some more work is needed regarding wheatering of the exhausts.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1005_zpsstx3simp.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1005_zpsstx3simp.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1006_zpssggto3ej.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1006_zpssggto3ej.jpg.html)

The pilot seat is glued into the cockpit, and the seatbelts are also installed. Seatbelts are HGW.
The fueltank is also glued in place.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1008_zpsjzeh9iqt.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1008_zpsjzeh9iqt.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1009_zpsmxocarfh.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1009_zpsmxocarfh.jpg.html)

Pilot seat and seatbelt's are wheatered with a wash, that explains the glossy shine.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1013_zpshr3r0kxh.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1013_zpshr3r0kxh.jpg.html)

Next step is painting the inside of the fuselage

The inside of the fuselage is painted with Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan, and the woodwork was done with oils.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1002_zpsdilbenjw.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1002_zpsdilbenjw.jpg.html)

Time to dry-fit the cockpit into the fuselage, just for the photoshoot

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1016_zpsz9gjpoxw.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1016_zpsz9gjpoxw.jpg.html)

Oh my, Danny! I found the interior detail absolutely mind boggling but it looks "plain" compared to the engine and exhaust, simply spectacular! I don't know how you could possibly improve on that exhaust; your work is outstanding to say the very least, and raises the bar significantly, this is inspiration at it's very best! 8)

Thank you guy's for the very nice comments ;)

Today was the day that all these beautifull details will never be seen again  .............because the two fuselage part's enclosed the cockpit and where glued together.

I previous did a dry-fit to be sure that the internal bracing wires where no problem to the assembly of the two fuselage halfs, and today all went well together without a problem.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1029_zpsktf4uabk.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1029_zpsktf4uabk.jpg.html)

The fit is very good.

The engine, was again dry-fitted to see iff everything is still glued the right way, and oh yes, no problem at all with the install of the engine.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1034_zpsbsxttfje.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1034_zpsbsxttfje.jpg.html)

The engine will be kept seperate from the fuselage until all is painted.

And some details into the cockpit that still will be visible.

It reminds me of Moskit's old metal exhausts, but at a far cheaper cost!

First, some taping, so i can get a nice thin line of putty.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1046_zpshrzdmeb6.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1046_zpshrzdmeb6.jpg.html)

For this i use Tamiya putty mixed with Revell Contacta Liquid, this micture give me some drying time room, and i can pin-point my putty to certain places.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1047_zpsesm8alvt.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1047_zpsesm8alvt.jpg.html)

After 15 minutes i remove all tape,

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1049_zpsmkjkvwcx.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1049_zpsmkjkvwcx.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1050_zpsznamy2gq.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1050_zpsznamy2gq.jpg.html)

The putty on the fuselage needs to dry some time, so meanwhile i take a closer look at the bottom wing.

The Constantino pump has to be removed from the wing, so with the help of an improved electrical toothbrush this was done within five minutes.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1041_zpstyzxa6g6.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1041_zpstyzxa6g6.jpg.html)

After removal

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1042_zpssekmwqxl.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1042_zpssekmwqxl.jpg.html)

Two panellines needed some attention after sanding, i think this will be the only two panellines that i will have to rescribe on the entire plane.:hmmm:

Ok, time to sand the putty on the fuselage, again, with the help of my electrical toothbrush.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1051_zps5lgpppbh.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1051_zps5lgpppbh.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1052_zps31x6cgfy.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1052_zps31x6cgfy.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1054_zpsrazisahn.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1054_zpsrazisahn.jpg.html)

The vertical fin on the bottom of the fuselage is allready glued.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1055_zpshbgewpid.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1055_zpshbgewpid.jpg.html)

The inner part of the bottom wing can be seen into the cockpit, so, some painting and a wash gave this a rather dirty appearance.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1056_zpsinldvuyc.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1056_zpsinldvuyc.jpg.html)

That's all for now.

Well it's fairy simple, first i used Tamiya XF-9 rust as a base color. Then i used just Tamiya black for the soot arround the exhaust end's.
After that, i used different Tamiya wheatering sets, to achieve a wheatered look, this depent's on personal favour, so any wheatering set will do for this job.
At last i used some pigments, mostly MIG light pigment's like earth or dessert sand, to flatten the dark tone of the base color and soot color.

Today, i finnished cleaning the most of the components before priming. Some part's where a little brought up to life and realism.

All part's where lay down to a piece of A4 paper sheet with the proper numbers for recognition.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1104_zps2qd1hgr8.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1104_zps2qd1hgr8.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1103_zpsw4vpupio.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1103_zpsw4vpupio.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1102_zpswajiwfmt.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1102_zpswajiwfmt.jpg.html)

Some part's where a little enhanced regarding the look and realism. First thing to do was the square holes at the back of the fuselage, where the steering cables passed. For this, WNW provided some PE, but in my opinion, the PE is a little to thick, so i used for the upper square holes some paper tape. For the square holes at the side, i allready used the PE, so i let it be.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1079_zpshyuogimj.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1079_zpshyuogimj.jpg.html)

On the horizontal stabelizer, upper side are two tubes installed to guide the steering cables. WNW provide this as two solid (bloc's, pin's....) i don't really know how to call them. I cutted these two and replaced them by two brass tubes.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1074_zpsn7ot21sk.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1074_zpsn7ot21sk.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1071_zpsfsoupu2u.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1071_zpsfsoupu2u.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1077_zpsl8xawopw.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1077_zpsl8xawopw.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1097_zpsk9chcgj2.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1097_zpsk9chcgj2.jpg.html)

The Vickers gun in the kit is a nice part that is very usefull, still, some extra detail can make the difference.
The busy end of the barrell isn't really very realistic, so some 15 minutes of work was needed to give it another appearance.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/5170b38e-75f3-433b-8ce3-2b05b9a5ffbd_zpsg2whgstp.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/5170b38e-75f3-433b-8ce3-2b05b9a5ffbd_zpsg2whgstp.jpg.html)

The barrell was drilled out, and a little piece of brass tube was installed. Together with some PE, this Vickers became a more realistic kit-part.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1092_zpsmfdefpp6.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1092_zpsmfdefpp6.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1091_zps7yanvrgv.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1091_zps7yanvrgv.jpg.html)

I couldn't resist, so i dry-fitted the Vickers gun on the fuselage, this beast got his teeth, but still.....before it's usefull, there's a long way to go.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1094_zpsazq7wo8m.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1094_zpsazq7wo8m.jpg.html)

And finnaly, the landinggear, i glued it together and dry-fit it to the fuselage for a proper alligment.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1100_zps55odgmcz.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1100_zps55odgmcz.jpg.html)

Today i did some priming work on the Harry Tate part's.

Now it's time to search for the proper colors.

Some proof that priming before painting is always a good thing.
Some scratches and some sink's where detected.

After some sanding and filling the scratches and sink's all seems very fine.

Thank's Alain ;)

Today i've airbrushed the propellor and the wing struts.

For the base color i used for both propellor and wing struts Tamiya XF-78. Regarding the wood-grain color i used for the propellor Burnt Umber and for the wing struts Raw Umber.

To make my choice of wood-grain color a little bit easy, i made a sort of a color chart, based on two different base colors and 4 oil colors. For this i used pieces of plastic cart.

Base colors are : Tamiya XF-59 Dessert Yellow
                            Tamiya XF-78 Wooden Deck Tan

Oil colors are : Transparant oxide yellow
                        Burnt umber
                        Raw umber
                        Van Dycke brown

This gives me 8 different wood-grain colors of wich i can chose from, and it look's like this:

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1070_zpsstjmeiyf.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1070_zpsstjmeiyf.jpg.html)

OK, time to give the propellor some color.

Base color XF-78

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1116_zps3r9dtmhg.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1116_zps3r9dtmhg.jpg.html)

and with the wood-grain color Burnt Umber

Wings struts with base color XF-78

To give some more information regarding the color chart i made, i will add some more photo's to explain wich colors where used.

First, the color chart, using 2 base colors (XF-78 and XF-59) and 4 oil colors ( Transparant oxide yellow, Burnt umber, Raw umber and Van Dycke brow)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1070_zpsstjmeiyf.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1070_zpsstjmeiyf.jpg.html)

1). two base colors XF-59 and XF-78 and oil color Transparant oxide yellow.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1066_zpsj1qjn5wl.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1066_zpsj1qjn5wl.jpg.html)

2). two base colors XF-59 and XF-78 and oil color Burnt Umber.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1067_zpscrmtktzz.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1067_zpscrmtktzz.jpg.html)

3). two base colors XF-59 and XF-78 and oil color Raw Umber.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1068_zpsheueslwb.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1068_zpsheueslwb.jpg.html)

4). two base colors XF-59 and XF-78 and oil color Van Dycke brown

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1069_zpsbgfzjoy7.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1069_zpsbgfzjoy7.jpg.html)

Like you see, this will give you in total 8 different wood-grain colors.

Today i taped the wing spars and rib tapes. I will go for a 3D effect, rib takes and wing spars in different color to simulate a translucent effect in dept.

Last weekend i painted the Harry tate in it's PC10 color.

First, undersides where taped.

And the, airbrushing started. For this i used Tamiya XF-62. It took about 3 houres to achieve this result.

After some delay, because of a clumsy modeller (me)  i finnaly manage to put some decals onto the Harry tate.

First a gloss coat was needed. I'm used to the Tamiya gloss coat, but i ran out of it, so last saturday i went to my local hobby store to purchase some bottles of Tamiya gloss coat.
Offcourse, they ran out of supply, so i looked to another brand......Mr. Hobby...but also sold out.....ok, Vallejo Air gloss......sold out, last breath.......Humbrol......sold out.......   :-\
And in this situation, you have to keep calm >:( >:(.....ok, next step, what kind off gloss coat is still in theire stock.......Ok.....Mr.Hobby Top Coat gloss in a rattle can, in far way my favourite methode, but with no other possibilty i had no choise.

Finnaly, the gloss coat is sprayed onto the Harry tate, not my best work, but it's fairy good in my opinion, so whe keep going.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1217_zpszorhrwsl.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1217_zpszorhrwsl.jpg.html)

Then, decal time, first underside of the lower wings.

Not good at all. After the use of the Micro Sol, and the drying time, the decal still showed wrinkling. I repeated the procedure but nothing changed. It's the underside and the wrinkling is not so vissible with the naked eye, so i leave it like it is.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1227_zpscg1dwof5.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1227_zpscg1dwof5.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1228_zpspuzheizm.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1228_zpspuzheizm.jpg.html)

Upper side of the upper wing. Here the decals are very smooth after drying, so me happy :D

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1229_zpsekt5rqti.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1229_zpsekt5rqti.jpg.html)

Vertical tail, No silvering and a smooth decal setting, so again me  :D

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1233_zpsfrh91c9a.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1233_zpsfrh91c9a.jpg.html)

Same for the fuselage and middle part of the upper wing, again i'm still  :D

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1234_zpsglxcdfmc.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1234_zpsglxcdfmc.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1236_zps7joe8ryc.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1236_zps7joe8ryc.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1237_zpsjevcppgy.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1237_zpsjevcppgy.jpg.html)

After all problem's regarding this project, i'm very happy with the result. More then 40% of the painted part's needed to be repainted after i poored a cup of X20A thinner over most of the freshly painted part's. Like whe all now iff that happens the paint work is FUBAR.

No i didn't. I alway's use tepid water, and without the Micro Sol, the WNW decals won't adjust to the surface texture. I allready noticed it's better to use very little Sol instead of a abundant use of Sol.

For now, a little update, not much, but again, i'm a slow builder ;)

The Harry tate has got his first wings. The lower wings is glued to the fuselage.

Wings struts are all painted.

Cooper bombs are painted and decalled. They just need a mat clear coat.

Very little progress is made the last few weeks, due to the severe wheater overhere in Belgium. Not at all bad wheater but very nice and warm wheater, so it was time to be outside instead of inside activity's.

One of the last part's that had to be done where the two Lewis guns, let's say these are a little kit on there own.

I used some kit PE, HGW PE and some scratch brass tubes for the barrels.

This is the end result, exept for the painting.

Thank's BUd for you're nice comment.

Like i said in my previous reply's, i'm busy with the eyelets and turnbuckles.

GasPatch has some very nice looking turnbuckles but this time i wanted to make them myself, so starting with the eyelets....................... .......i'm not giving up on this:evil_laugh:

First the wire, copper....0.1 a 0.2 m/m cut to a lenght of 1.5 cm.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1369_zpsswtg7q2a.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1369_zpsswtg7q2a.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1373_zps8gbhdqbr.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1373_zps8gbhdqbr.jpg.html)

These pieces are now turned using a tweezer and my hand, i have now the basic eyelet.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1374_zpsyark0tja.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1374_zpsyark0tja.jpg.html)

The eyelets itself is 0.3 m/m, for this i use a 0.3 m/m drill bit. The other end is fastened in a pin vise.

Time for a massive update guy's

Last day's i was very busy to tackle some details. First thing to do was glueing some part's to fuselage.

First thing, the whole engine and the frontal machinegun.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1410_zpsbieq2gxs.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1410_zpsbieq2gxs.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1411_zpsaad1dzhu.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1411_zpsaad1dzhu.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1412_zpsofyvwugv.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1412_zpsofyvwugv.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1413_zpsfqohcn69.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1413_zpsfqohcn69.jpg.html)

Wheels are attached to the landinggear. I chosed to use the company decals to add on the wheels. I found that the text, wich was molded on the tires was overdone, so therefore the decal solution.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1417_zpsyukqumym.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1417_zpsyukqumym.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1418_zpskhjnwuxd.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1418_zpskhjnwuxd.jpg.html)

Next thing will be a fun part......wheatering

Ok, time for the next update, the wheatering of Harry.  On of my favourite way's of wheatering is using the Tamiya wheatering sets. These sets give you lot's of possibility's, it's good stuff.

First i tackled the underside of the upper wing.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1434_zpsx5bz8bcb.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1434_zpsx5bz8bcb.jpg.html)

The flash of the camera hides most of the details, so here's a closer look.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1435_zpsnz38af9j.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1435_zpsnz38af9j.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1436_zpsb7416rgr.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1436_zpsb7416rgr.jpg.html)

Upper part of the upper wing, here's it's a little more difficult to achieve certain effects. I didn't want a harsh effect overhere so a subtle wheatering was added.
Left side is untouched, right side wheatered.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1438_zps1y4aud9t.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1438_zps1y4aud9t.jpg.html)

A closer look

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1440_zpscv4df0hk.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1440_zpscv4df0hk.jpg.html)

And the roundel

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1443_zpsztkxxxz2.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1443_zpsztkxxxz2.jpg.html)

Also the landinggear wheels where wheatered with these Tamiya sets

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1447_zpsqgh6iwvl.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1447_zpsqgh6iwvl.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1448_zpszfgtclca.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1448_zpszfgtclca.jpg.html)

Time to add the rest of the part's to the fuselage.

The engine cowl's where glued on theire place. First i wanted to display the engine, but i wanted a machine that was ready for battle, with the pilot and gunner on theire way to board the plane.

The fit here wasn't quit good, I think the problem didn't lie at the kit itself, it was rather me that did something wrong.....i don't know .....well ok, here we go, everything worked at the end, so no harm done.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1450_zpsg4dpsdrv.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1450_zpsg4dpsdrv.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1451_zpsfsipu7ir.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1451_zpsfsipu7ir.jpg.html)

Windscreen and Aldis sight are glued.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1452_zpsgg9dp9lm.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1452_zpsgg9dp9lm.jpg.html)

When i glued the Aldis sight, i touched with my Tamiya thin cement brush the left exhaust, resulting in leaving a glue stain on the surface........stupid me.....
That will taken care of, not much harm done.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1453_zps8ddyydjq.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1453_zps8ddyydjq.jpg.html)

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1454_zpszhzmp4xk.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1454_zpszhzmp4xk.jpg.html)

Next, wheatering of the bottom wing, first to do was the underside, again, the same way like the upper wing, but the wheatering is heavier now.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1457_zpsfu8dtvjx.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1457_zpsfu8dtvjx.jpg.html)

Horizontal stabelizer.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1459_zpshedvrwkv.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1459_zpshedvrwkv.jpg.html)

Then systematic i wheatered the rest of the Harry.

(http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/Davamoplanes/DSCN1461_zpsggogtvhx.jpg) (http://s144.photobucket.com/user/Davamoplanes/media/DSCN1461_zpsggogtvhx.jpg.html)

For this rigging i use elastic flat rigging material. I ordered it at Hannants.

Today i finnished the rigging of the Harry Tate, and to be honest, i feared of this job, but at the end, all went very well.

Time to add the last details, bomb's and final placement of the two Lewis guns (now they are just dry-fitted) and some detail painting.
After that, i can call this build done.

What can i say about this kit. Well, it's a tricky kit, but again, it's WNW quality and that say's it all.
I was surprised about the wing span of the upper wing, boy it's big, compared to my Roland, the Re.8 was a big plane, but that said, it's a very impressive model, and i hope that one day WNW will put the Harry Tate back on the shelf's.

For now, i don't have the time to shoot lot's of pic's, i will do that when it's finnished, but in the meanwhile, here are 3 teazer photo's of the Harry Tate.

This tuned out extraordinary!  The weathering and fading is very realistic but not overly done, looks like an in service a/c that has seen a lot of use.  The rigging is nice and tidy.  Outstanding job.

Hi folks,

the Harry Tate is finished, but still, there are some objects that are necessary to complete, the whole Harry Tate diorama.

I hope it's ok, that i post them over here.

First thing to do, the two figures and the dog.

The Harry Tate diorama, will depict a machine in the day's of 'Bloody April'. Crew is ready to board their Re.8, but before they do, they give some attention to their dog, the squadron mascot.
Not knowing for what they up to, they are in a playful mood.

I choosed two excellent figures from Kellerkind, and today i glued them together, and filled up the few seem's.

I started on my Harry Tate ground work. From a normal round MDF base plate, to a muddy april 1917 ground work. Like you will see on the last photo, in that order i used some colors and a dark wash.
