Hello all,
Well, I'm back in the saddle! The Fok DVIIF has been put away for another day and out comes the PUP!
This will be a discombobulated build thread. So don't expect too much from it ;)
Here we go!!!
1st question: Do the nubs on the firewall face outward? The instructions show a flush firewall.
Cheers,
Bob

Herr VonPuppy, It's good to see your new project :D. About the nubs,
I believe they are supposed to face out...I know there was a corresponding
notch at the inside top of the cowling on mine. I will happily be following your
build...knowing your work, it will be marvelous.
Cheers,
Ernie
-
Ernie is correct Bob, as with his Pup kit mine also had a corresponding notch inside the cowling, looking forward to watching the progress of this build.
Des.

Well it sure ain't no Pfalz D.IIIa but will follow along as your build develops . :)

Des, Ernie & Terri,
Thanks for the info! ;)

I just ordered the Naval Pup, Bob, so I'll be watching this build closely for tips!

Bob,
I was thinking of starting my Pup next but due to wanting to watch your build I have changed my mind to something else 8)
I have the RFC version but I am sure I will get lots of great ideas from your build!

Hi Bob. Good luck with the Pup. I've got one in the stash for a rainy day - or in my case, maybe a rainy season, so I'll be following the build with real interest.
Best wishes
Nigel

I'll be following this as, thanks to being influenced by you large scale chaps, I've bought one of these, albeit the RNAS version. It'll be the first time I've built anything larger than 72nd scale! I'll be especially interested when you get to rigging it as I haven't a clue... :P
-
The WNW RFC Pup was the first aircraft I rigged - took me ages as I didn't really know what I was doing. However looking back, I would now find this relatively straight forward. The Pup is not a bad model to start rigging with though - plenty of manouevring space between the wings etc.

I think I will cope! ;D
Thanks for the loyal support, guys!

Hello Bob:
I too will be following your build. Good luck with the build.

I, too, will be following as I need to get myself one of these British mounts. Only question (rhetorical) is which one?

My comment on rigging was aimed at Squiffy's post, but I guess you knew that anyway ;)
Looking forward to your build, should be a great job. Don't forget the cockpit frame/floor/lower wing fit is very tight.

Thanks, Ian ;)
I have tickled these parts with my rasper file - they should fit A-OK after a light dusting with the old airbrush.... I hope!

My concoction of PC10 for Arthur's mount will be more on the brownish side... why? Words from the great man as quoted from his book, Open Cockpit.
“The dog-fight when I first experienced the trill of real in-fighting, a confused, breathless circling to avoid being tailed, those few spasmodic bursts at targets too fleeting to hit, steep-banking Albatros D.IIIs, all gaily coloured, in sharp contrast with our uniform drab brown.”
Straight from the horses mouth ;)

Excellent choice, Bob. Most RFC/RNAS pilot's account of their ships colors specifically state brown or even chocolate. I've personally never seen them referred to as green, but that's not to say they weren't. Okay. I'm stepping down off my soap box now. :-[
Cheers,

But yet , it's still the colour , which gets the most ...well you know .

I think the Brown is a good choice. I would say that Bud is right to a point...hank Burden of 56 did a sketch of his SE5a during the war and described the uppers as green. Like others here I have been going more brown with my PC 10. There were MANY PAINFUL discussions on the Drome, Lets leave it at that and go forward 8)

Sorry, T and Rick. I'm rarely so adamant about such things. :-[ Must be the full moon (or something). I've modified the tone of my post to a more conciliatory one. (All modifications are italicized.) ;)
Cheers,
Bud
PS- BVB, sorry to lead your thread astray. Won't happen again, mate.

That's it Bud, you're banned. :D

Rick,
Remind me.... What brew (for Snipe) did you use for your PC10 - I like it ;)

Hi Bob,
give me a day or so and I'll put up some model paints useful for the range of PC10/PC12 Methuen values published variously by Ray Rimell, Ian Huntley and Ian Baker that are based on measured samples. Strictly none of these are 'green', rather yellow-olives through yellow-brown olives to brown-olives (i.e. black/white plus a 'yellow' or 'orange'). I've found it best to mix/choose colours in natural daylight as some of these paints can look 'green' under artificial light (including white strip light from bench-top modelling lamps) but correctly 'brown in real daylight. There are some unexpected examples.
Cheers,
Graham

Bob,
The simple answer is Grren plus a touch of red until it reaches a brownish tone you like. In my case it was Gunze RLM 71 and Gunze red. I tend to get too dark with my PC 10, " Dark Chocolate " 8) I think next time I will add a touch of white or light grey to bring it more to a milk chocolate ::)

Hi Graham,
All PC10 info will be greatly received - Cheers! ;)
Hi Rick,
Thanks for your input. I will give your 'special brew' a try. ;) :)
