A very good wood grain and build until now.

Dear colleagues,

Alright, finally back to the modeling table again!
As warming up, continuation of preparing the basis for creating the wood effect of the other internal 'wooden' parts. I used the same color combination as for the upper part of the cockpit compartment.

Next, start of building the floats. Using plastic card of different thickness, the first steps of the build look promising I think.

Till next time,

Dagmar

Nice to see this back on the board; the floats look great. Good work takes time, this should be a real winner!
Cheers,

The floats look awesome! Did you cut the shapes and then just bend them together and reinforce with the formers visible?

Really wonderful stuff.....excellent work, Dagmar!

Of course, you going to all the trouble of this conversion is one way to be sure that WnW will announce a W.4 for C'mas!

I look forward to your posts and hope you will keep them coming.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

Dear colleagues,
Thanks for the kind words!

Hi Rick, indeed, I took the top of the floats as basis for the build and glued both sides, cut into shape to it. The formers should strengthen the whole thing and also make sure that both sides are perpendicular to the top of the float.

Hi Michael, you are just describing the worst nightmare when you're building a conversion...

Till next time,

Dagmar

Have you seen the really wonderful 1/32 Beached Walfisch diorama by Per Olav Lund? He scratch built and vac-formed a gorgeous Roland Walfisch and I think he did so less than a year before, Voila, WnW released not one, but TWO, gorgeous kits of the same plane.
Yes, that is the nightmare! So, I guess this means you are the sacrificial lamb, Dagmar! Just when you finish this gorgeous conversion, WnW will announce their brand new ALBARTOS W.4! We all thank you in advance!

In the meantime, keep up the good work!

Cheers from NYC,
Michael

PS Truthfully......as much as I wish they would do a W.4, I hope this doesn't happen to you!!

You have got me so keen on this build that I just got a card stock model and will attempt to use it to make this conversion. Eagerly looking forward to more.

Dear colleagues,

The pressure, the pressure... Hope to live up to your expectations  :)

Well, I was able to finalize the floats. After the general shape of the floats was to my liking, the upper part of the floats was detailed with plastic card and Evergreen strips cut in the desired shape and guided by Tamiya tape cut templates.

Finally, tape of different thickness is used to simulate the reinforcements on the edges of the floats.

Till next time,

Dagmar

Bravo! This is looking great Dagmar! I would say the pressure is not affecting you in the slightest......

Using different widths of tape as a means of a repeated measurement is such an obvious choice.....once one thinks of it! LOL!

May I ask how you are adhering the tape for permanence? I would think that the adhesive that comes on it would not be sufficient for long term sticking.

Cheers from NYC,
Michael
