1/32 Albatros W.4
« on: July 06, 2014, 09:12:04 PM »
Hello dear colleagues,

After several years of non or semi modeling activity, I finally decided to spend once again more time on plastic cutting, carving, sanding and gluing. The pace will remain low though...  Subject of the restart will be a conversion from the Roden 1/32 Albatros D.I to the W.4 version. The target will be a hopefully very good lookalike, not a to the mm in scale correct replica.

So, here we go kicking off with the fuselage interior: cleaning up and adding some locating strips.

Tailskid D.I removed.
Filling the D.I panel lines with a super glue/talcum mixture and rescribing the W.4 panels...

The frame cut in two to ease painting and weathering later on....

Rebuilding the pilot seat frame, making it snugly fit inside the fuselage...

Till next time,

Dagmar,
This should prove to be an interesting and definitely challenging subject. Keep the reports and updates flowing, and welcome back to plastic bashing!
Cheers,
Lance

Sounds like an exciting build. I am getting a Google "500" Internal Server error when I try the links so am unable to see the photos  :(

Hello Dagmar and welcome to the forum.

That is some challenge you have set yourself and the photos show a fine start. I can't wait to see how this one progresses.

Best wishes

For someone who has only been a part time modeller until recently, you have done some really impressive work. I am really looking forward to reading more of your posts and looking at more of your excellent work.

Nice looking work so far.... you know once you get 90% done WNW will announce the W4 as a surprise release don't you? (okay it's more a wish and hint. )

I'll watch this progress with interest. The Roden Albies are still IMHO their best kits. I've just slipped a DIII onto the tail of an order from Nordlands (saving a chunk on UK prices... seemed a fair excuse even to SWMBO)

Dear colleagues,

Thank you all for your feedback. Highly appreciated and most motivating! However, I hope WNW did not read your post kornbeef...
Next time I'll try to upload pictures in an 'enjoyable' size directly in my post.

Bye for now,

Dagmar

Hello Dagmar:

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your project.  This is going to be interesting and I like your approach to the project:  A 'looks like'.  The Roden Albatroses, although lacking in some detail, build into some nice models.  Looking forward to seeing you progress through the build.

Best

Hello dear colleagues,

Fiddled along a bit this week and continued with the interior.
Trying to upgrade the control column with Evergreen rod and little bits from the PART Albatros D.I photo etch set...

Accentuating the borders of the ammunition boxes with stretched sprue and adding a bit more detail with Evergreen and copper wire...

Same thing with the fuel and oil tank...

Till next time,

Dagmar
