Today i managed to put some final work on the Mercedes D.III engine.

A wash and some wheatering et voila, i think it's done :P

i also made some progress on the cockpit section, and after some detail painting, all part's are ready to be glued.

Only the engine and the pilot seat are just dry-fitted for the photo-shoot

i did the final work on the cockpit section. Some little detail painting and the rigging of the controle cables.
This was done with the wonderfull elastic rigging wire from Ushi, for this i used the fine size.

Also the canvas behind the pilot seat got a wash.

HGW seatbelts are added to the pilot seat, and the engine is glued to the frame.

the two side halfs of the fuselage received a wash from MIG dark wash and then got a Tamiya matt clear finnisch.

Some dry-fit of the cockpit frame into the fuselage halfs.

And finnaly cockpit and fuselage halfs glued together.

Hi guy's,

back to real-time now ;)

I took some time to prepare the fuselage, wings and controle surfaces for the Lozenge and Ushi wood decals. Mr.surfacer 1200 primer, and Tamiya XF-55 deck tan for the base coat together with some pre-shade.

I decided to start with the Lozenge decals, for this i use the Wood & Wire decals wich i find very realistic compared with the kit decals.^_^
To get some feeling into a new world that will open for me, i first tackled the lower Lozenge on the horizontal tail section.
soon i realize that the Wood &Wire decals had to be handled with the most care possible because they are very fragile, but also very thin.
After looking for some courage:wacko:  it was time to start a unknow journey.

Soon i realize that all was not so bad at all, the decals could be handled very good, and i was very pleased with the end result.

For the wings i decided to cut the Lozenge decals in part's, to prevent that the decals where to big to handle, it's a little extra work, but for me, it was a good job.

After all, this is a very pleasant work, maybe i made some mistakes  but the end result is good for me.

Amazing work, Danny!  Beautiful job on the woodwork and especially the lozenge, which
while beautiful is very thin and delicate.  You have a stunner of a build going.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Two thumbs up mate! The engine looks marvellous! I simply love these faded lozenges. The D.VI is one of my all time favourites because of the fuselage construction - very pleasant boat like design  ;) Maybe Bataille (which Des is brilliantly building now) was an inspiration  ;) I`ve seen the fuselage in Kraków museum and I wish they will rebuild the wings as well to present it in its full beauty!
Keep up the great work!
Best regards
Filip

Great work so far. I love the engine weathering and wood effects. I also appreciate the feedback on Old Propeller/Wood & Wire decal, as I just bought a sheet of lozenges from them and was wondering how they would behave.

You certainly weren't kidding about the Massive Update! Your Engine and interior are superb! As for the rest it looks as though your Lozenge work will be as beautiful as the other work you have done!!

Hello Danny:

WOW!  A rather unorthodox way of applying lozenge, but if it works......good on yer.  This is coming along nicely, outstanding workmanship all around.  Looking forward to see how your lozenge turns out.  Interesting concept to say the least.

Best

I like you lozenge approach, I think I would be tempted to do something similar with those fragile W&W decals.

Hi Guy's, thank's allot for the really nice comment's :)

Regarding the lozenge cammo decals : this was my ever first time that i used W&W Lozenge decals and, that i used this way of work. I really tought about the way of approach to aply the decals, i looked at similar builds but from the moment i learned about how fragile these decals where, i decided then chose the way to apply the decals in seperate part's to the surfaces.

Thank's allot for this great feedback guy's ;) ;)
