This time I have a question regarding RAF maintenance vehicles / service vehicles and their colours:
1. the rule was that service vehicles were painted RAF blue-gray ?
2. Airfix refuelling set shows one tanker painted brown-olive and one RAF blue plus yellow top
- were the yellow tops on vehicles used throughout WW 2 ?
Was RAF yellow reseved for special vehicles or just a means that a pilot will recognize a vehicle
in order not to crash with it ?
3. the RAF brown-olive paint differs from Army colours ?
4. US-built vehicles usually kept their drab-olive colour , only got British markings and roundels ?
5. Roundels were used on the fenders and tops of vehicles - but always on the tops, too ?
6. Did UK-based service vehicles show camouflage ( an Airfix set shows it )
7. Or was the mix of colours an effect of wartime needs ?
