Junkers Diorama Finished!
« on: August 17, 2018, 11:51:49 PM »
Hello All,

I’ve just finished the project. A big leap for me as I usually tire of an aircraft the moment it’s finished  ::) I’ve not done a diorama before, and although it was more involved than I’d anticipated - I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish. Maybe it’s good to be out of the old comfort zone from time to time!

Overall I’m fairly pleased how it turned out, although I can see that’s it’s quite one dimensional compared to an equivalent Manni style diorama, but, it’s a learning curve and I’ve certainly learnt a lot. Using plaster for the base was fun!

Thanks to those who followed along with the build, your input was invaluable  :)

Guy

Ps hopefully it will be in an up coming edition of ‘Scale Aviation Modeller’ and I’m definitely going to Telford this year so it’ll be on the tables there with any luck.

Sorry, lots of pics!

What a cool dio, Guy!  I was shocked to read that this is your first.  Looks like you've been doing this forever.  Not one dimensional at all.  Very interesting on so many levels.  I love the archway.  I look forward to seeing it at Telford.
Cheers,
Bud

Like you Guy, I've only ever done one, and it's a very steep learning curve indeed! You've done a terrific job on this one, I like the "depth" your composition presents and the portrayal or suggestion of a story is immediate. (I see it as the Technician is de-fueling the aircraft before it's wheeled inside to be broken up and the aluminum turned into cooking pots etc., swords into plowshares as it were!)
The finish, weathering, and layout are all superb, nicely done!
Cheers,
Lance

I too have only ever produced one diorama, and as you and Lance have written the learning curve can be nearly vertigenous - at least I found it to be so. You have managed to produce a first class model in an equally first class setting - I only regret that I will not be at Telford to see it. Photos will have to do....

Thank you all for your kind comments  ;)

It’s much appreciated.

Lance - I like your description of the scene.. that’s now the official story!

Beautiful work Guy, a very convincing contemporary scene, well done.

I hope you do some more diorama work for your future projects.

Guy,

That is really cool.  I can't believe it is your first diorama.  It looks fantastic!

Extremely well done dio!
The components are very well-blended together
If I could make a technical observation regarding the fuel cart , the tank would be very heavy , full of fuel or not , and the carts construction allows the tank to rotate down to the ground. Having built the cart I made these observations myself , off the few pics available.
As I say , a technical observation...
