Albatros D.I/D.II air pump
« on: June 03, 2018, 01:19:39 PM »
I just got Windsock Datafile #100 on the D.I/D.II in, and I had hopes it would answer some questions on the engines of these planes.  On the aircraft with the Windhoff radiators, where is the air pump for the fuel system located?  I have not found a picture that clearly shows the location.  The cover illustration has what looks like the decompression valve located at the front of the engine rather than at the back on top of the jack shaft.  Some photos from the cockpit forward do not show an air pump mounted on the back of the camshaft, so I don't know where it is.  On some photos of D.IIs with the wing mounted radiator, it looks like there might be a standard D-M D.III engine air pump in the normal spot at the front of the engine above the radiator hose connection, but none of the photos is clear enough for me to be certain.

Thanks for any insight anyone can give me.
Bill
