Just bought em' today
« on: May 20, 2018, 01:39:55 PM »
Hi Everyone,
Just came back from our big IPMS swap-meet with two WnW's.

There were DH. 2's, OOP LVG's, W.29's, Gotha...  and some others...

...now I have 6 WWI aircraft in the stash...

Even though it was a swap meet where most kits were selling for 1/2 to 3/4 of their current worth, these were being sold equal to retail.

Lucky?  I dunno.

Cheers,

Gaz

I'd call that very lucky indeed Gaz. That D.VII (Alb) is a real prize!
Cheers,

G'day Gaz

I think your Wingnut purchases at the swap meet confirm the feeling that Wingnut kits more than hold their value. Also I suspect the days of super cheap kits at swap meets are gone - sellers want maximum dollars to fund their next purchases and we all know how new kit prices are rising.

Were you lucky? You picked up two OOP Wingnut kits and did not have to pay the crazy Ebay prices some of them are going for now. So I'd say you were very lucky. Even if Wingnuts reissues these kits in another guise, these original boxings with their 5 decal options are not being reissued so we are up for collector prices. if OOP kits from a deceased estate do appear on the swap meet circuit you have a better chance of scoring an elusive bargain at a reasonable price.

Guys,
I guess I was lucky, but part of me wishes I'd have picked up more.  But I only took $300AU with me and the two kits ate 7/9 of that.  I know...  7/9th's yer saying...

But I was told once that five out of four people have trouble with fractions.
Funny thing is, I feel that the almost-rigging-free Fokker is kinda like building a WWII plane...  Part of me is keen on the rigging for some reason...

But not so keen as to have picked up the DH.2 or or the FE 2b...  That kind of fragile framework scares me to death.
...I have dropped my current Albatros twice...  just so you know...

Nice haul at a reasonable price. Don't let the lack of rigging lull you to sleep on the DVII. The interior framework, and all of the interior bits take precise fitting and alignment or you will have a nightmare with engine panels, radiator, and the rear fuselage seam  :-X

Hmmm...  Those interior framing jobs give me the willies.  I can just imagine all kinds of things going wrong.
