Ken,
I just about jumped up and tried to do a back flip when I saw this one done.
That is one fine model and indeed, a fabulous tribute to Des. Thanks for sharing
this with all of us.

That is really a fantastic scratch build of a Fokker type, which I never have seen as model.
Very carefully build and painted.

Only a very mild criticism: I think the rubber of the tires was not black, more grey, but may be I'm wrong.

Cheers,
Frank

The tires probably were gray, but I used O rings for the tires and was hesitant to paint them.

Thanks for posting.

Passing along this tip from a model military vehicle website. Rubber tires must be first thoroughly washed with cleanser to remove all traces of mold release and skin oils. Then apply a 50/50 mix of white glue and water as a base coat. Allow to completely dry. Acrylic paint is recommended for final finish.

I am proud to announce that my Fokker won best of show at a local contest!
There were numerous well made models in contention - ships, armour, and figures, but I believe the fact that mine was scratchbuilt tipped the scales in my favor.

I would encourage others to try scratchbuilding.  Start small by adding small details to kit models and go from there.  Adding details you make yourself makes the model uniquely yours and not just an assembly of parts some one else made.

That's one impressive scratch build - a tribute to your modeling skills and to Des - the best way to honor a great modeler.
