Eindecker Metal Work
« on: March 10, 2018, 06:22:18 AM »
Hello all,

I wanted to show an experiment I did on replicating the metal work on the Eindecker.

Wingnut Wings has a great method of doing this by paintbrush, but I was unsuccessful.

After some head scratching I came up with this and was pretty pleased wit the result.

Step 1. Spray Alclad aluminum.
Step 2. Using a black Sharpie draw the squiggle pattern.
Step 3. I sealed the marker with MM Metalizer, but i'm not sure this is needed as the marker did not react to lacquers.
Step 4. Mist coat Alclad aluminum to knock down the black marker and blend into the finish.

I hope this is helpful.

Ryan

Thanks Dave, I might add that the pattern above was created with a larger tipped marker, a thin line would probably look better.

That’s one of the cleverest and best looking hints I can remember. Great idea!

Ryan,
Alclad makes various aluminum shades. Which specific bottle did you use?

It’s an older bottle, ALC-101.

I did some final work to the floor, it’s much easier on the spoon!

Somewhat pleased with the result, pic soon.

I finished up the floor test, looks more like galvanized than the spoon but I'm happy with it.
Ended up dry brushing a little test or silver to tie it together.

Sorry no pics my Fliker app won't copy a bbc code, so click on my links in the above pics to see final pics.

Here are some shots of the floor, I had some difficulty with clear coats reactivating the pen. So think i'll switch to a acrylic clear to seal the pen work on future parts. Like I mentioned before came out more like a galvanized finish. Here is a before and after.

Brilliant! Thank you for posting this, and I'll be trying it; like RAG III I have the Fokker D.II in the "pending" line up.
Cheers,
Lance
