Sopwith Pup 1:32 scale
« on: January 20, 2018, 01:34:26 AM »
Hi all,
I've started on the Wingnut Wings RFC Sopwith Pup.
So far the cockpit is done - fully rigged with PE map case and fuel contents gauge, additional scratch hand pressure pump and micro-tubes for throttle control, fuel contents gauges.

Build completed and now in the 'Completed' thread.

Yeah essentially OOB apart from the following additions:
Control and cross bracing rigging (micro-tube, mono-filament and Gaspatch turnbuckles)
Extra tubing and lead wire for controls (Albion Alloys and PlusModel)
Photo-etch map case, fuel contents gauge and gun magazine feed chute (HGW Models)
Pilot's rudder bar straps (lead foil)
Linen seat belts (HGW Models).

Great start to a wonderful Kit. I really like your additions to the cockpit, the fuel contents gauge and the rudder straps really are eye catchers and the frame cross rigging is very clean and real looking. Looks like another winner coming from your bench!
Cheers,
Lance

Really nicely done; how did you do the ignition leads?

Thanks guys.
Normally I use 0.125 mm diameter copper wire for the ignition leads.  I would twist a length around a 0.5 mm drill bit to form a loop.  The loop is then CA glued over the spark plug and the free end glued to the appropriate engine part.  The trouble is that it's difficult to get the wires to look as though they are in tension, which in reality they were.
So this time I used 0.2 mm Nickel-Silver tube from 'Albion Alloys (code NSR02).  I cut lengths to span between the spark plugs and the stubs on the engine ring (located on the engine shaft).  These were CA glued in position then brush painted with Mr. Metal Colour copper (MC215).
These are slightly over scale but I think look better (you can get 0.1 mm tube - code NSR01) - not that you'll see much of them once the engine cowl is fitted over the engine  ::)

Awesome start on the Pup, I like especially the realistic weathering on the wingtips. That's a great little detail that makes the Engine-Propeller unit even more realistic. Very nice and an ideal I'll keep in mind...
Best regards
