Hi Bud
I was not aware of this kit, I would have to say though that if I saw any plane with 'Fray Bentos' written on the side - that would be going on my plane regardless of what else was on it. I am sure as always this will be another one to be jealous of.

Outstanding to date as expected. The Light CDL decals and wood grain decals look awesome!

Another very promising start on your workbench. That really looks like another beauty. Is there a WWI plane you did not build yet in your life, Bud?  ;)

You sure know how to pick 'em Bud.  Instruments are great, as is wood work.  The CDL decal looks pretty darned good as well.  I like the way it looks, I am impressed with it on the wing and the tail surfaces.  I may have to try it on one of my builds.
I too will be following along on this one.

Bud, this CDL looks damn good! Do use the 1/32 scale variant or is there also CDL in scale 1/48?

Thanks,
Frank

I agree with all the above comments: a great start and it's going to be an excellent model. Very well done.

Again, I apologize for my late response.  Life's been hectic lately.  Fun, but hectic.  Thank you all for such kind comments.

Oh, so many, Andreas!  I'm embarrassed to say, I've yet to build a SPAD, Albatros D.III or D.V, a Salmson, an AEG or even an SE5a!  The shame of it!

I use the 1/32 scale offering, Frank.  So far, there is no 1/48 scale CDL sheet.  I'm sure someday someone will call me on it and tell me it's out of scale, but I okay with it.

Rigging commences tomorrow.  The sooner I get this one done, the sooner I can start on the Ninak Carol bought me for Christmas 9 years ago and the first WNW kit in my stash.  It's about damned time.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud,
Your CDL is superb! I've used it in the past and really like the effect but I struggle with the joins and "overlap/underlap" challenges. Did you use the white backed version for the under surfaces? I'd be interested in any hints/thoughts you may have on that and also a comment on how you dealt with trimming the scalloped trailing edges, they are flawless!
Cheers,
Lance

Thank you, Manni, Lance, Ed and Rick!  You guys are way too kind.
In answer to your questions, Lance, I used the clear version, top and bottom and for all of the edges I used this:

This stuff is fantastic.  It completely melts away any raw edges and helps the decal to adhere at the edges.  Makes for a very smooth finish.  Not my invention, it was recommended by Richard and a few other modelers in an earlier discussion on the topic.
Cheers,
Bud
