Next up, 1/48 Ansaldo SVA9 from Fly
« on: December 05, 2017, 09:50:15 AM »
This is the latest release from Fly and as soon as I saw it, I knew I had to build it.  I wanted something with a dark wood fuselage, weird shapes and cdl wings and this fills the bill.  It's also perfect as a warm up for the excellent Aviattic Balilla and I'll be using Aviattic decals for the wood and the fabric.

I've decided to do mine in Polish markings.  Przemo tells me that the Polish Airforce operated only one SVA9 and that was a trainer.  I think I'll stick a gun on mine just 'cause it looks cool.

This is really a simple kit, so it's going together quickly.  The instrument panel was a little crude with embossed instruments, so I filed them off and added my own.

All closed up and ready for clear gloss, then the wood grain decals.

Cheers,
Bud

Fantastic work on the IPs. The grain is very effective elsewhere too.

Bud, what a great start! I like the wood grain and the panels.
I will keep an eye on your build, because one day I want to build the SVA5 of my stash.

Cheers,
Frank

Very nice start Bud, the instruments are superb and the "woodwork" excellent. Not a real common subject but a graceful airframe, I'll enjoy following this one.
Cheers,
Lance

Great start Bud. Those instrument panels look wonderful: where did you get the bezels and other bits from? Aftermarket I assume.

Great to see this one started, Bud!

Excellent work on the instrument panel. I am sure it is just the first step leading to the amazing final result. Will be watching it with great interest!

Thank you, my friends!  Now that Christmas is over, I can get back on this in earnest.
The Instruments are decals from Airscale and the bezels are from Aeroclub.  For the fuselage exterior, I am using Aviattic dark woodgrain on clear film and for the wings and tail surfaces, I'm using Aviattic RFC light cdl on clear film.
Decal on the right, no decal on the left.  The difference is more subtle in the photo than in reality.

The tail is nearly completed.

Cheers,
Bud

Lovely, Bud. And it is so touching to see Polish markings on a kit built by you! Again. :)
