Cataract surgery and detached retina
« on: October 22, 2017, 12:58:06 AM »
Haven't been near the work bench as I had cataract surgery and lost about 98% of the sight in my right eye due to a detached retina.   Cataract surgery went fine and the retina surgery is next Tuesday.  Doctor said he should be able to get me 100% sight back.  When they do cataract surgery they replace your natural lens with a plastic one that has your eye glass prescription so the
Doctor thought my ability to see up close will be better than before all these issues.  Been reading the new Jasta 30 book and looking forward to tackling the W.12 I started months ago.

I have had both of those too, the detached retina in 1988 and the cataract last year. I still have my Class 1 medical and fly professionally. All the best for successful surgery!

I had cataract surgery a few years back. Best thing for my eyes in years. Not only did my vision go to 20-20, but I can now see colors that were merely rumors before. You’ll be seeing the “real” PC-10 in no time.

Surgery was 10/24 and morning of 10/25 was my post surgery checkup by the doctor and also my 66th birthday (wife commented probably my worse B'day ever) He said everything looked good and my sight should come back in 3-4 weeks.  During the operation he put a gas bubble in my eye and looking down forces the bubble to press against the back of the eye. So I need to keep my head down for seven days and sleep on my stomach so my head is facing the mattress.   Daytime I can deal with it as I'll lie on the floor with pillows but certainly not my normal sleeping position but I'll make it.  No pain so far other than my back and neck from looking down all the time...  Mrs D is putting up with me so far.  🙄

Looking forward to getting back to the work bench.

Sounds as if you have had excellent results from the surgery, looking down for 7 days is a small price to pay for perfect vision, I really hope the recovery will be up to your and your doctors expectations, keeping my fingers crossed for you. I have had both cataracts done over the past two years and it was the best thing that I could have done, my last eye check showed I have 20/20 vision in both eyes.
