German naval lozenge
« on: August 27, 2017, 02:45:47 AM »
I would like to know if this naval lozenge samples are correct.
I guess (maybe I´m confused) that the hand painted lozenge had 30 cm diameter from april 1917 till april 1918, then on, the naval lozenge changed to printed fabric with irregular hexagons that were 155mm x 200mm.
Take a look by yourself in this link:

http://www.aviattic.co.uk/172-decals.html

I refer to: ATT72026 WW1 German "Naval Hex" Hand Painted Linen
and
ATT72025 WW1 German "Naval Hex" Printed Linen

It seems that the hexagons on both sheets have the same dimensions.

Many thanks.

Your best bet is to email Richards Andrews at 'Aviattic'.
He is a wealth of knowledge of this subject.

The original overall larger size hexagons were all painted. When the smaller hex printed fabric was introduced later, some areas like the top of floats or places difficult to cover with fabric were simply painted with the same size hexes as the printed fabric.
