Friends,
WNW's Roland is finished, finally.
As you all know, the scheme that was chosen for my build was Otto Kissenberth's plane, adorned with his usual white Edelweiss insignia while he was commanding JaSta 23b.
I doubt that he ever flew this plane due to the injuries he received while crashing with his captured Sopwith Camel - nevertheless this aircraft is an interisting one.
It' one of the early Roland with the old DIII-engine, rated as 160hp. One has to guess why such a well one Kanone chose such an obsolete aircraft...
Anyway. I decided not to follow WNW's instructions too closely, using doped ribtape instead of lozenge, as this aircraft is from the very first batch, using a strut design that was changed after the 21st aircraft.
Photos of another one from that batch (WNW's option E) clearly show doped ribtapes.
I decided to stick to WNW's boxart as well, using the white and black striped tailmarking, instead what was called out in their painting instructions. The only existing photo was not overly helpful here.
[edit: i would happily add more fotos for your viewing pleasure if only the software would allow so...]
Regards,
Stefan
