I didn't realize it was paint and not the metal skin.

Since the High Speed Silver was paint, you should weather it the way you would weather any other paint scheme. They were kept very clean, so for mine I used a panel wash only around the opening/removable panels and hatches, and left the rest of the airframe pristine.

In your larger scale, though, some subtle repainting with a slightly different silver color around fasteners and removable panel edges might give a good effect, as well as some scuffing where the pilot and ground crew step. I'd expect that the gun panels and large engine hatches would get the most wear and tear.

Peter

Thanks for the very good suggestions Peter! I have spent days looking at Google Images of Models and Actual Meteor Photos. Final decision will be close to your suggestions. Really not much room if one wants to Model a relatively accurate scheme. Now one could go for the Artistic thing and shadow highlight etc, but I think I will Not  8)

No worries Ken. I did think of varying some panels for "Artistic" value but decided against it for My reasons stated!

The end of today's session. A SMALL amount of highlighting. Hard to see in My Lousy photo  :( Next a clear coat then oils and decals.

Thanks Dave I appreciate you dropping by!. The CA Meteors are nicely done so you should enjoy the builds. I owned both the F4 and F8 back when I built 1/48th  8) I also owned all of the Aeroclub vac kits of the Meteor at one time.

Really a nicely looking machine and you achieved a smooth and elegant finish.

Well I have suffered a setback! Started to apply the Pheon 56 squadron Decals and they were VERY BRITTLE. I have never encountered this issue with Pheon before so must assume that it was related to how long I had the decals( about 4 years). I managed to get the left side markings applied but the one on the right fractured into multiple pieces. Photos taken before removal. The result is this one is sidelined until I can order a replacement set. I am really afraid to try any of the other markings like stencils and roundels so will just save up for a New Set. SIDELINED for now!

Now, that's a shame - not just because of the decal but also because you are using this project to get your mojo working

Ow...that sucks. :(

When kept sealed in their bag under normal circumstances....4 years shouldn't be a problem.
I use decals much older without problems. An unlucky sheet I guess.

Without reading, I would have said: "nicely weathered markings!" :)

Best of luck Rick.

Robin

Found my mojo and clipped it's wings, so it won't fly away.

Sorry to hear about the decals >:(! You could try a coat of Micro Scale Decal Film to the decals before you wet them. I’ve had good luck with that to stabilize old decals. Try it with a decal you won’t use for this Meteor, on a scrap model.

Thanks Richard. Yeah, a real bummer for the Mojo but I think I will go to the Sabre Mk. 6 as a back up build until I can order the decals.
Maybe even something WW1 back on the bench. Taking today to Drink some good Beer( Porter) and then decide ;D

Thanks Peter. I think I will just order a new set when finances allow. Some of the decals like walkway lines have a lot of clear area so I just don't feel comfortable even with Micro Decal Fix.
