Adam, none of the photos of N124 Nieuport 11's show cockades on the top wing surfaces except N.1148, a CDL kite, and those roundels are Russian style.  Possibly it was intended for the Russians, but was diverted to N124.  Even the Nieuport 17's flown by Thenault and Nungesser when he was attached to N124 were devoid of top surface roundels.
