Camel 2F.1 (?) from Academy 1/32
« on: February 11, 2017, 06:38:07 AM »
Hello everybody, this is my attempt to convert the Academy 1/32 Camel to a 2F.1 Ship's Camel. There are a few minor inaccuracies, some because I didn't know and some because I couldn't do :P .  I didn't know WNW would release this type when I started, or else I could have waited a little. Many conversions were needed, but none was really difficult to do. Most problems with this kit can be solved with sandpaper. I only had to construct the inner struts and the Lewis mounting (well, not perfect  :-\ ). Other parts came from the spare box.  The propeller is temporarily placed there, because I know it is not correct for this airplane. I will build another one when I get proper information. When it finished I had the (very bad) idea to add inspection windows on the top wing, without previous works as I didn't plan to do this from the beginning, so it came out disappointing.
This does not represent a specific airplane, it was built as a study. Any information and comment will be appreciated, because I intend to do this again. I will also get a WNW of course, but this one is cheap and amusing and is one of my favorites  8)

Cheers !

That is a very nice Model! I really like the finish; great paint work, detail, and exceptional shading and weathering. If this is just "built as a study" I can't wait to see your second one! Nicely done, a superb Build 8)
Cheers,
Lance

A very attractive looking model, painted and weathered beautifully. You have done a great job with this somewhat iffy kit but with a little work you have produced an excellent model. I built the Academy F.1 some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed the build.

 George,
Outstanding Camel my friend. You've done an excellent job with the old Academy kit. Having finished an old tool Camel myself I certainly do appreciate the work required. Congratulations and Well Done. Looking forward to your next Camel.

I saw this on FB earlier today and was impressed! Beautiful work on a kit that is somewhat challenging. The conversion work is awesome!

Thank you all for your kind words  :)  Next to finish is McEwen's 8239D, I am doing this in black and white checkers. Then some Germans. I will post when finished. In the meanwhile I am following some of the builds here, and getting techniques and ideas. There is a lot of interesting material to be discovered yet.

Regards !!!
George.

If that was a test piece I cannot imagine what one of your models will look like when you really get your act together!!

I have nothing negative to write because I cannot see anything to criticise that you have not already pointed out. Congratulations on an excellent model.

That's a very nicely detailed build. I have this kit somewhere and tbh I thought about selling it when the WNW options came available however having seen your excellent rendition I'm having a rethink.

It cannot build to the level of WNW I guess  :o However, it is worth  a try (at this price) and you don't cry over it if things go wrong. Get A LOT of sandpaper  :D
