Merit Spad S XIII
« on: December 24, 2016, 07:36:26 PM »
Hallo...
this is my first biplane that i'm going to build.
Starded with this kit from Merit (Trumpeter) 1/24 Spad S XIII late.
i most build these for a museum.

it is not a high standard kit, but it is the beginning, te kit has no engine , no seatbelts , and other small things.
i gonna build these OOB , just some extra  details like seatbelts and other interior parts.
ther are two options for Decals   Eddie Rickenbacker and  Rene Fonck.
so i make the version from Rene Fonck.
the interior is already finnich , the seatbelts are from wire and ledfoil

here the base color sand for the (oil paint )wood textures.

Great start Marc, if I can ask, which museum are you building this plane for?

Wonderful start. Those seat belts look as good as any aftermarket set that I have seen.

i have see on this forum , verry fantastic works from all the modelers..oh my god.
verry high skills... man, i still have a lot to learn.
I see mostly kits from wnw, i saw a time go on a fair a few boxes, there are very expensive.
not for a beginner lik me.

back to the Spad now
after the sand color , i use oils for the wood  rau sienna , yellow ockre and burnt sienna.
i did aolso the propeller, sand color and shading
and then drawing the curves with a brown pencil.
i hope a do it right

cheers

You've made an excellent start and the wood grain looks very good

If you are a beginner and you can make wood look as realistic as this, then I am going to get my coat! Excellent start - looking forward to more.
