Thanks mate. Very scary last night waking up to a big quake just after midnight. House is not damaged fortunately, but commuter trains are out of action and the buildings in the cbd need to be inspected before anyone can return. No work for me today ;-) No income though for those small businesses who can't operate today. Chaos at supermarkets etc. Hope all is well with the folk at the Vintage Aviator.

Cheers for the thought. All good at my house here in Wellington too but ours is built on rock - some others not so lucky. Still a massive quake with reports from geo-science that parts of NZ shifted 2 metres horizontally in a 90 second shake. North east coast of the South Island is in bad shape. Very scary and my kids are on edge...

Not a very nice experience when you've just dropped off to sleep (about midnight) - is it a dream? Then you are mesmerised for a while tying to work out what's happening - and when is going to stop!

No damage here (ca. 50 km north of Wellington) but a large tree in my piece of native bush has fallen over - on a steep slope and after days of heavy rain (now back again with a vengeance to add to peoples' miseries down south as well).

The communications between the North and South Island are really munted now. It is probably going to take weeks to get the state highway and railway from Picton to Christchurch  back to working order - and Kaikoura is cut off.

Musn't grumble.

PS. heard on the radio that a guy not far from the epicentre lost his collection of model ships and aircraft when they all came crashing off the shelf.

My first thought was, when I heared in the news at 6 about the earth quake ín NZ, hopefully all the Kiwis-Buddies are save and sound.
