Revell 1/48 Fokker Dr 1 (Eduard) Speedbuild...
« on: November 14, 2016, 02:36:12 AM »
We decide at our Club meetings what the next "Theme" or Group build is going to be, and usually I can search amongst some old models and find something appropriate, but the theme for December is "Red and White" (Blame the holidays and a certain sweet beverage manufacturer) and I had nothing suitable... so I decided to quickly get something together. Please note this is no great super-detailed build with lots of PE and fine wires, just an out-of-the-box colourful fun build! Hopefully I can beat the deadline...

So here's the kit, plastic only!

I know there is Eduard PE etc, but I simply don't have time for that. Compromises will be made, and this kit has been made many times before on the site in great detail... I did look at the builds and they are very helpful.

So a start to the Cockpit floor and a few details: the decal for the compass came from the spares box...

Then the seat and fabric bulkhead, my interpretation of colours! The seat belts are metal from wine bottle cork wrappings... and some scrap buckles....

That's a wee it inverted! Then the cockpit sides were painted and the kit supplied frames installed... The plywood V formers were wood effect, and the fabric areas a neutral colour, then some stretched sprue rigging (Quick, cheap and cheerful) and I lost the map bag... too bad...

Progress has been made... Enjoy your modelling!

Marc

Hi Toby! Hi Rick! Thanks for following and the encouragement. I got the sub-assemblies into the fuselage halves... Ammo boxes too wide? Just cut off the end, no-one will see... Add a few random wires to busy it up...

Onward! Regards, Marc

Hi Gregory, Hi Rick and Terri, it's just great getting the encouragement! Well, the fuselage halves are together, always a big step forward. Then the putty is in the upper fuselage seam (rear deck) as the joint is far from good. This is what it looks like when the putty is sanded down, but the seam line still shows! I will have to resort to surface primer... I also lost the rear transverse support bar for the machine gun mounts - so here is my make-shift one from sprue - (I always loose something - war is hell) but at least I can make it fit well...

Back to the bench!
Regards,
Marc

Looks great Marc, this kit goes together well with no real snags I found, apart from the self-induced ones I always make!!

Hi Bud, Hi Ian! Thank you both for checking in! I'm finding this a strangely enjoyable build - in spite of a few self-induced errors! I seem to have the same problems, Ian! But the new support for the machine guns is working well so I turned my attention to the underside of the fuselage where that area in front of the lowest wing is kind of featureless... well, it's even worse after filling and sanding flat! On the real aircraft there is a removable hatch there and positions for the front landing gear leg placement, and the Eduard kit has a nice piece of PE replicating that, but I don't have that kit... so I will carry on regardless (Was that a British movie?) and fudge it - lots of weathering will disguise things anyway! There is a plastic part to replicate the stitching behind the wing, it fits in the groove...

All The Best,

Marc

You are certainly not hanging about with this one. My if I could build models at this pace i would soon run out of room! Great thread to follow though - and I bet it will be completed on time too.

Stephen.
