chevrons on Fokker D.VII upper wing
« on: October 22, 2016, 06:45:27 AM »
Gents,

Was there military significance to the adding of a chevron or chevrons to the upper wing over the lozenge or was it purely artistic?
Military as in Rank or flight leader or rally plane etc.

Thanks,

John

I think that the use of chevrons was more of an aerial recognition device(who's who?) than a rank or command device. Streamers were flown on some aircraft to indicate flight/ squadron leaders A/C, but as far as I know chevrons were not.
