HobbyCrafts SPAD XIII
« on: October 04, 2016, 07:19:41 AM »
 Afternoon Guy's and Gal's,
Here's another old project of mine I now restarted. I began this project as part of a duel build along with my HobbyCraft old tool Camel. For some reason which I no longer recall I never started a build thread for this one here on this forum although it was on the old GWITA forum.  As always any and all comments are welcomed and appreciated. So without further ado here's my SPAD XIII project.

 The beginnings of her interior.

The completed cockpit. If you look closely you'll see the mallet used to clear jams on her Vickers. The Red T handle when pulled opens the tear away panel on the fuel tank below.

 As she stands today.n

That's all for now. Thank You for looking. To be continued soon.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

Great to see you back onto this one Gregory, I remember this from the old days on the GWITA forum, man, that seems so long ago now. I'm looking forward to following along with your build and what you have done so far is excellent.

Hi Gregory,

great to see another of your builds! You did an excellent job on the woodgrain, I have to say. It looks very convincing to me!

Cheers

Lovely work there. I have this kit somewhere so will be following this build closely.

Hi Gregory,

Looks like you have a cracking start there to pick up on again. Good luck with the rest of the build - if it comes out as good as the Camel it'll be another stunner for the collection :)

Great work on the cockpit. I really like the instruments - are they decals and bezzels?
Keep the updates coming;))
Best regards
Filip

 Filip,
Many thanks my old friend. Glad you like the instrument too. To answer your question they are decals from Des and fine brass wire. Very much appreciate your comment and question.

Looks very nice! I'm sort-of looking out for this kit too, but haven't stumbled upon one locally. I already have the Roden S.VII and the XIII would look nice next to it. That is, if I happen to build a bit faster... ;)

 Jeroen,
Thank you for your comment my friend. For some unknown reason to me HobbyCraft SPAD XIII's have become very rare. You might try watching E-Bay for the kit as they do show up from time to time. Warning it's usually at a premium price. Anyway the best of luck in your search.

 Afternoon Guys and Gals,
Time for another small up date. Other things have slowed my bench time this week. You'll notice the previously painted internal structure on the wing and tail. On unpacking the kit I found some of the paint had chipped. I'm not certain just what caused the chipping as each piece was wrapped in paper towel and sealed in a baggie. Never had this problem Mister Kit paints before.

Cutting up her wings and tail:

Test Fitting the tail and wing pieces:

Comparing the kit supplied Vickers and the AM Eduard Brassin version:

I'm not set on using the Brassin Vickers yet. I've ordered the Gaspatch version as well as the Vickers Balloon Buster. We'll see later. Thanks for looking.

I too have been keeping an eye out for this one, and have the Roden VII to pair it with. I`ll be following your progress with great interest, Greg, lovely start!
