Some British 1/72 kit bashes

Another Munson inspired kit bash. I knew there had been a vac form some years ago but had never seen one available. A flash of inspiration occurred in what was then Modelzone when I saw Revell’s reissued Boeing Kaydett. The fuselage looked useful as did the wings from the Revell Se5a. I could also use the rest of the 5a so it looked like a winner all round.

The DH5 holds the record for my longest build time. It was started in 1982 and finished in 2012. Originally advertised in a magazine alongside a Fokker DVIII it turned up as a part started kit bash. I dabbled with it for a while before storing it while I took the customary decades long sabbatical from modelling. Comments made during the Vickers build brought the DH 5 back to mind but I was more inclined to acquire a Pegasus version at the time. But as the thread shows events took a different turn and the “ Revell “ DH5 was completed.

The Bristol monoplane has to be one of the wars great what ifs. Believed to be the victim of an anti monoplane prejudice stemming from before the war the Bullet was superior to any available Allied aircraft when the German Jastas began to dominate the Western Front. Only one went to France and the types operational use was limited to the Middle East where over 30 aircraft were sent. The rest were retained in the UK at training units. This kit bash was based on the Airfix Magazine article of September 1981 and uses the old Airfix Gladiator as the main donor kit. I modified the method slightly based on the accompanying Combat Colours article by PG Cooksley and probably ended up with a hybrid B and C.

This was the recipient of the left over SE5a fuselage. Stretched with plastic card and combined with the Airfix Harry Tate wings it’s my attempt at the boy racer version of the old Quirk.

As Gregory and Rick have written, this si another beautiful collection of models. You certainly know how to utilise different parts from different kits - and what a difference it makes to a model collection. Brilliant conversions all.
Stephen.
