Copper State 1/48 Grigorovich M-5
« on: August 19, 2016, 04:20:28 AM »
Although I'm still plugging away on the WNW Brandenburg W.12, I plan on starting this one very soon.  Because of the sparsity of references and the less than simple rigging, I had put off buying this one for years, but since it was the last of the currently available CSM resin kits that I didn't already have, I finally broke down and ordered it.  It arrived two weeks ago and I've been itchin' to start it ever since.  It's really a sweet kit and aside from the SM.1, probably CSM's best resin kit ever.  Before I get started, though, I'd like to know if anyone has any photos or drawings of the cockpit.  So far, my searches have been fruitless, but I'm hoping someone can come through for me.  If not, I can simply fake it and no one can prove me wrong.  ;)

The wings and tail feathers:

Struts, wing floats and prop:

The engine:

Various armament:

Decals:

And the instruments:

Bud

Very interesting subject, Bud. I am sure that you'll turn it into another master class Modell. I'll follow your posts curiously.
Best wishes

Thank you, Andreas!  I think you would like this kit.  It's right up your alley.
If I can figure out how to paint figures and what Russian naval uniforms looked like, I might just turn this one into a diorama.  You've inspired me, my friend.
Cheers,
Bud

Hey Bud, nice model you got there)
was there Gnome Monosoupape in the kit as separete set?

just in case you if missed that picutere

Thanks for checking in, Edgar!  If you are referring to E48-009, no, it was not included.  Just the original kit engine as shown in the fourth parts photo.  It's fine, though.  It's really a nice engine.
As for the photos, those are included in the instruction sheets.  The ones you sent are much sharper, though.  Thanks for that.

Thank you for this, as well.  Although I found no clear cockpit photos, these are a great help for overall structure, rigging and schemes.
Really looking forward to those 1/48 Russian figures.  The 1/32 ones are awesome.
Cheers,
Bud

It is a beautiful kit, Xan!  One I'm sure you would love.  Do you have it?  I really like the Ottoman scheme, but if I do that one, I will deviate from the instructions just slightly as the instructions indicate that the rudder was black with the "moon and star" motif.  That plane was in service with the Turks in 1918 and by that time, according to Rahmi Kocaman, the moon and star were white on a red field, not black.  My second choice would be number 37 in Imperial Russian markings of 1916.  Both have a grey and white hull with cdl wings and tail surfaces.  I plan on using Aviattic CDL for that.
Cheers,
Bud

Great to see you unbox this kit Bud, I have also started my build of the same kit but I posted mine in the Resin board.

Another very interesting type - I do like these flying boats. Are scale drawings supplied with the kit?

Interesting choice Bud , not one seen at all being built . Guitarlute 101 ( Mark ) started this kit way back , but I don't recall if he ever finished it .
I might be able to help you with some refs for this build . I had a great friend send me a file folder and a CD full of info . Just don't recall what is in the ref . Been a long time since I even looked at the kit . Eric did a beautiful job , one of his  best . And by the looks of it Edgar has kept the tradition alive !

Hi Bud
I will be following this one with great interest. I have a vacuform version but with hindsight it would have been more sensible to get the CSM version. The rigging looks a bit of a challenge!
