Blue Max L.V.G. C.VI
« on: August 07, 2016, 07:01:41 PM »

I've had this kit stashed away since it came out years ago.
I was going to get it down and build it after I watched the Shuttleworth L.V.G. flying at Old Warden, and again after WNW released their version and put the instruction leaflet on their website. But no.
However Jamo's marvelous photos of the Memorial Flight's reproduction http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=7006.0 convinced me now is the time  :D

So far I've not put glue to plastic, but I have cleaned up the main parts, thinned the planes and pined them. I also sanded off the rather crude air-intake (which is in the wrong place anyway) and replaced it with brass.

I want to put a lot of after-market stuff into this, starting with Copper State Benz.

and a crew from Aero-Bonus by Aires

Test fitting proves that I've wasted far too long cutting bulkheads from plastic card (the figures block the view), but saved a lot only detailling the part of the engine that shows

Cheers,
Tony.

A good start on one of my favourite two seaters. I take it this is 1/48 as it is very difficult to find in 1/72. Pegasus go for silly money and all I've managed to find is an old Classic Planes vac. Good luck and I'll be looking for tips.

Regards, Steve

You have made a great start on this build Tony, the engine and figures look excellent.

I think this kit was my most enjoyable build ever. I love the plastic Blue Max uses and the kit strikes the perfect balance of molded in detail and add your own detail. You are going to have yourself some fun on this one.

So cool you got to see it fly. IIRC that example is one of very few surviving airframes that actually flew combat missions during the war. Looking forward to watching your progress.

Lovely work on the engine.

Thanks Toby, it's a lovely engine from CSM, beautifully molded and if you were displaying it whole, something you could really go to town on.

Thanks Steve, I've posted a photo of the box top to clear up any confusion. I'd forgotten about the Pegasus C.VI.

Thank-you Des, I'm determined to actually finish this one, so your encouragement is very welcome.

I agree Steve. There's something very satisfying cutting off the flash and cleaning up the soft waxy plastic in a Blue Max kit to see the parts appear as they should. Your " most enjoyable build ever" high praise indeed, now I'm really looking foward to closing that fuselage up  :)

Cheers,
Tony.

So glad to see you working on this one, Tony!  Like you and Steve, Blue Max kits are among my favorites.  Although they are not perfect, they are a joy to work on and this one is high on my list to start soon.  As with so many of your builds, I'll be using this one as a guide when I build mine.
Cheers,
Bud

Bud and Scott good to hear that there are at least another two BM L.V.Gs waiting in the wings  8)

I'm afraid I missed the boat when it came to the early WNW releases Manni. I would have loved to have a bash at the R.E.8. Still nevermind I've got a WNW D.H.2 waiting in the cupboard  :)

Cheers,
Tony.

Hello,
very nice start on this Blue Max kit. I also have some in my stash, for example the Halberstadt D II or this one,
and I will follow your progress with great interest.
Best wishes
