Sopwith Dolphin Copper State Models 1/48
« on: July 12, 2016, 06:19:35 AM »
Hello,
Since the W.4 is almost finished - I`ve chosen the one I was waiting for quite a long time ;)
Not much work done, apart from watching the box content more than 100 times  ;) Starting this topic, is what I consider a major motviator...
I promise to show something during the next udpate!
Best regards
Filip

Looking forward to it, Filip!  Starting a build thread usually gets me motivated as well.
Cheers,

Hi,
watching the box is quite promising activity once you build the kits. Firsts you have to find inspiration, the muse! Have you found such one for Dolphin ;D Good choice!

Well, this will definitely be a build to follow, Filip, and what good hands it will be in.

I will be very interested to see what you make of the instrument panel. Having bought the more expensive version of the kit I was surprised to find the main panel just moulded with some raised plastic bezels. I'll remove these and add my own, but I did expect rather more and at the very least, some appropriate decals.

Best wishes
Nigel

I could not agree more. Your last build was as usual outstanding - I do not expect that this will be any different…… so I will follow along.

Stephen.

After finishing the W.4 and the U-boat model it`s high time to get some work done.
I`m seeking any photos of the cockpit area (apart from Windsock 54 -cause I already have it) so that I can super detail it.
I`m in quandary with the cabanes` colour - I`m leaning towards painting them grey or should I leave them in natural wood finish?
What do you think?
Best regards
Filip

I think I will stick to grey cabanes. The rear ones still need some sanding/filling and the colour I`m going to use will be slightly lighter.
There are still some major touch ups needed, and I`m going to use the pictures to add wiring and plumbing to the cockpit as well as the pump and other instruments. So far I`m pleased with the quality of the kit - it comes along very nice.
I regret that I haven`t ordered the premium kit - not because of the markings cause I`m building the Callaghan`s mount but because of the engine. I thought I could use Karaya`s Hispano Suiza 300 hp but there are some major differences between 200 and 300 hp engines - the one I have is simply too big and not geared.
I think I have to scratch build it or re-work the Karaya`s engine :(
Here are the pictures:
