Well - it's Canada day here in sunny Edmonton Alberta! I'm finished this 1/32 scale WnW Pfalz D.IIIa and wanted to share a few pictures. Again it's photographed with that same backdrop and pilot I've used before, but I'm hoping to order something new for next time :)

I have to thank "Umlaufmotor" Bertl Skorpil for his help with weathering ideas on the black fuselage, and also Chris Johnson for sending some fine fishing line for some of the rigging on the tail. The model was basically out-of-the-box with the after market decal sheet from WnW for the Pfalz D.IIIa, and Aviattic's lozenge decals for this specific model. I added thinner fuel lines and an engine vent line to the radiator with fly-tying wire and made new seat belts from lead sheet. Oh yes - I also used RB productions photo-etched turnbuckles on the rigging.

It turned out to be an absolutely stunning model Gary, the black paint and weathering is superb, a great scheme that turned out very impressive and the addition of the pilot adds the finishing touch, great photography also.

It's a beautiful model and a great scenery. By the way also a great control on depth of field in all pictures.

The build would be impressive enough if 'factory fresh' but the weathered black fuselage kicks it even higher up the ladder.

A truly beautiful build! The subtle weathering on your black fuselage is outstanding. It was a joy following along with your build!

Thanks gbrivio - I use an old Nikon D70 on a tripod with some "daylight" studio bulbs and the smallest apeture setting of 25-29 to try and get everything in focus. The shots usually get taken around 1/3 seconds of exposure. I have to do it manually, especially as the light meter will get fooled with a white background.

Do you mind sharing your weathering tips for black fuselages (those would come at a very convenient time for my "Black Dagger" Pfalz)?

Thanks Lance - glad you were able to see the progress when we met at the show in Edmonton. I never would have got it finished even if I'd tried - there's always those last minute details that need doing that take forever!

I find the RB turnbuckles quite easy to work with. I ordered more a few weeks ago from Ireland and they still haven't showed up (starting to worry about Canada Post and their looming strike!). I haven't tried the Gaspatch ones purely because of cost.
